Protein Shakes

I second the suggestion on getting samples from Vitalady...much cheaper. I had a couple I liked but due to a different surgery (on my jaw), it no longer even smells good...I did find one at Viamin Shoppe that I can tolerate...but like majormom said...the first ingredient was the whey protein isolate. I'm using the Whey Tech Pro 24 vanilla so I can add it to my coffee and other things. And still drink it.

Hi there, I am new at this too and ordered a lot of sample packs over the internet. So far I have tried unjury unflavored and use it in my coffee in the morning. I also like the syntax nectares that you just put in a bottle of water and they are very good. I used the unjury chocolate and that was tasty as well. I have a bunch more to try and am happy to find that most of what I have tried so far have been good, not chalky tasting as I was expecting. Good luck on your search and post what you find you like so the rest of us can try them if we havent already tripped upon them!! Good luck!

You should all try Syntrax Matrix Mint Cookie. Because it is awesome.

That is all.

I would get samples before you buy a large tub of anything.  Our taste are so different what one person loves you may not can tolerate.  I bought lots of samples from vitalady.com before I bought anything big.

I love the Syntrax Nectars - Cappuccino in my coffee, Lemon Tea and Chocolate Truffle.  I might have to try the Chocolate Mint now it sounds really good.  I think these have about 23-24 grams of protein in a scoop - no carbs no sugars, it does have aspartane(?).

The Lemon Tea, I use 1 bottle of water put a crystal lite lemon tea stick in it shake it up really good to dissolve the crystal lite, pout this into a 20 oz blender bottle, put in the one scoop of protein and either mix with a little hand mixer or shake until well blended.  If you shake it, wait until some of the foal dies down and then add ice - yummy!!

The chocolate truffle I put a scoop in about 1/2 cup of Hood Calorie Count Down Milk(hard to find but get the one with less carbs), shake it up, sometimes I put sugar free Davinci syrup - Toasted Marshmallow or German Chocolate Cake in it.  Add ice and blend in a magic blender or a blender.  It is like a milk shake - add some fat free whip cream!!

Prior to surgery I never, ever drank or ate anything sugar free.  I could not stand the taste of any sugar substitutes.  My NUT told me 4  months before my surgery to find a suitable protein shake.  I decided I did not want to waste $$ sampling the brands and flavors on our list as she suggested, so I decided to buy mine once I got home and was post op.  That decision was my biggest post op mistake.

I became lactose intolerant, and because s my tastes significantly changed, sugar substitutes became even more egregious to me; even the smell of whey made me nauseous.  No matter what I tried I could tolerate no protein.  It did not matter the brand, flavor or kind.  I tried so many.  Even at several months out I was getting maybe 30 grams of protein.

Finally one day my husband happened to buy EAS AdvantEdge Rich Dark Chocolate.  Of all the flavors I chose that one w/o thinking.  I do not like dark chocolate,  As it turned out, the dark chocolate taste masked the sugar substitute/whey taste as much as possible.  I knew immediately I could acquire a taste for that one.  To this day it is still the only flavor and brand I can drink.  It only has 17 grams of protein, but I love it.  It is like a dessert drink to me now.  I drink them every day.

I tried the necters, egg white proteins, Unjury and many more.  If you drank sugar free drinks, you may not have any difficulty finding something you enjoy drinking.

Post op, I loved chocolate....until I had jaw surgery about 3 months ago. (By then I was 15 months out from my DS). After I was healed enough to manage protein shakes again (they do NOT go thru a syringe), I discovered that my favorites were terrible...the smell of them made me nausous. I drank them anyway but once I finished off the two tubs we had in the house, I went looking for a new one...

Whey Tech Pro 24 vanilla by Vitamin Shoppe works for me right now...and as soon as we can, I am going to go thru the sample list again from vitalady to find a new one.

I'm a new convert to the Syntrax Matrix's and man oh man are they ever good!  I could eat it with a spoon!  I can't believe I suffered through all those 100% Whey Isolate shakes, that I had to doctor up so much to hide the whey taste.

I got a few samples from Nashua? I think and tried them all before buying the big bags.  I really liked the Mint cooke and the Cookies and Cream as well as the Perfect chocolate and Simply Vanilla.

I bought 5 lb bags of Chocolate, Vanilla and Cookies and Cream.  I figured I could easily just add a little mint extract to the Cookies and cream to turn it into Mint Cookie and that way I had more flexibility with the C&C bag.
