Hello and so glad to have found you!!  Too much bickering going on on other forums for me!

I'm 5'7" and started out at 253 lbs.  Had RNY on June 27th, 2012 and as of today have lost 33 lbs. and 25 inches!  I was wondering if this is about average at 2 mos. out for someone who has a little over 100 lbs. to lose.

Also, I am a type 2 diabetic on insulin.  I still have to take insulin, but I'm taking about 1/4 amount I had to before surgery.  I hope to one day be off insulin.  Any input from y'all on this?

Hi Joy and welcome to the LW board.  We are a very friendly group.

Congratulations on your surgery.  Sounds like you are doing great!!

I was not on insulin but on Metformin.  I stopped taking mine the day before surgery and have not had to take any since.  Good luck with getting off the insulin.

Be sure to join in on our posts.

Hi and Welcome, you found a great board!

I am a type 2 diabetic also.  Since surgery I am off my Metformin but I still take my daily Victoza shots.  I am hopeful that it will go into remission as I lose more weight.

Feel free to go through my blog on my profile if you want, it documents my experience so far.

Hi Joy,

I didnt like the tone of some of the other forums either, and was very glad to I found it.  Everyone here is super friendly and truly helpful.  I have surgery next thursday and have gotten so much encouragement and good support here.

Welcome!

Joy, welcome to the forum and congrats on your loss so far.

I am a type 2 diabetic, WAS on an insulin pump and metformin. My surgery was the 24th of Jan 2011,  on the 1st of Feb, I took off the insulin pump and on the 11th took my last insulin. I came off metformin in April 2011.

It can take time...and a handful, unfortunately, never come off diabetic meds. For a RNY, the resolution rate is 85-92%...so that means anywhere from 8-15% stay on meds.

What is nice is that you have cut the amount of insulin you were using...I hope you get off it too.

Thanks, Liz!  I knew going in that there was no guarantee I'd go off all meds, eventhough that's the main reason I had the surgery.  I have always had a hard time controlling my diabetes...it goes up and down alot.  I was beginning to see some improvement, but it seems to be creeping up again.  Why, I do not know.  I'm following the program very closely and can only eat 4-6 oz. at a time!

I'm trying to be patient!  I was soooo hoping to come out of surgery on nothing!!  My sugar ran 300-400 the first 2 weeks out and I was only drinking protein shakes and water!!  Baffled my surgery team too!!

Welcome to the group!!!!

This is a great place to learn and find support.

I hope that you will be in remission soon regarding your diabetes...stay positive and hopefully you will eventually be med free.

Good luck!
