Good morning,
I wanted to ask you guys that have already had the surgery what you would do. My b12 was on the low side 320ish and my D is 30. I am hopefully looking at surgery in the next two months. I was told by my pcp to up my D to 1000 iu a day. My surgeons office told me to up it to 2000 iu a day. I had a consultation with my surgeon and he told me to double it to 4000 iu a day. I'm just wondering after looking at some having a hard time keeping their vitamin d up if I should be taking more? I know it will be much harder after having a ds to get the levels up. I hate to end up having surgery at such a low rate. What would you do if you were in my shoes? I appreciate your opinions.

I would go ahead and order from Vitalady, and if you're having the DS, get the 50,000 IUs of dry D3. Take 2 - 3 a week and get the D3 up before surgery. I'd also go ahead and order B12 sublinguals from her. She carries 5000mcg sublinguals. I'd take one every day. It would be even better if you could get a B12 injection, but if you can't, the 5000mcg dots are awesome. You might as well start on some calcium and iron while you're at it. Do you have your labs you can post for us? Need calcium, PTH to go with the D3. Need iron serum, ferritin, hematocrit, hemoglobin and folate. How's your potassium? You could start drinking low sodium V8 juice or ask your doc how much OTC potassium would be good for you.

Start on some low sodium V8 juice and start using Morton's lite salt. You can also ask your doc how much OTC potassium would be ok for you to take. Don't eat bananas as they are full of sugar. Protein and calcium are ok but it hardly ever hurts for women to take calcium citrate. Vitalady's calcium citrate only -- 2 capsules twice a day until post-op.

Yep, iron. Order Tender iron an/or Proferrin from Vitalady. My hubby takes 1 capsule of Tender iron a day as a normie. You want to take it away from all other vitamins, dairy, calcium, eggs, whole wheat and caffeine.

Does whey count as dairy?  I have a water based protein shake after supper, like 9pm then take my iron before bed so it is usually about an hour after.

What kind of iron?  I think an hour apart is ok, 1 1/2 to 2 hours would be better but if your labs are on the decent side you're getting something.

My labs have always been ok but ferritin was trending down a little so I started doing Bifera plus a C every couple of days.  It says it is polysaccharide iron complex and heme iron as proferrin?  I just ordered and started Bariatric Advantabe Iron Chewy bite.  it says ferric orthophosphate.  It has a C with it.
