NSV - Did something I haven't done in 20+ years!!!
So I started walking a little more than 3 weeks ago. The first goal was just to walk 30 minutes, 3 times a week. That didn't feel like much to me, so I increased to 45 minutes and worked toward 5 days a week. I was able to accomplish that quickly and decided to push myself further. I added another 15 minutes (60 minutes total) and another day (6 days a week). I decided that no matter what, I was going to give myself 1 day to rest and regroup.
Now I'm at Week #3 and had an itch on Monday to try running. I didn't do it Monday or yesterday more out of fear than anything else. I was afraid of moving too fast too soon. So I asked hubby's opinion. He suggested I go for it, but keep my time to no more than 20 minutes. My comment to that was I didn't even think I could go 5 minutes, but that I'd give it a shot.
So earlier this morning, after he and our son left for work, I got my running shoes on and prepped my playlist on the tablet. I did a brisk walk for 10 minutes to make sure I was warmed up... and then I started running! Before I knew it, I was passing the 12-minute mark and felt great! So I kept going. I started to feel a little tired at about the 23-minute mark. So I wrapped up my run at 25 minutes and walked for another 10 minutes to cool down.
I haven't been running since I was 18 years old! Back then, running for an hour every other day was normal. I honestly never thought I'd ever be able to run again. I mean I tried a few times when I was still obese. I was always winded and hurting just after 5 minutes. So I gave up. Now I truly feel like the limitations are within me.
So that's my NSV for the day!

Walking, I can do...but even at my fittest as an adult (I was 28 and in the absolute best shape of my life) I still despised running...hate is not a strong enough word.

Liz - I have my dad to thank (or blame) for this one. When he was in the Navy and I was about 10 years old he got me running every other day because I was already having weight issues. He'd make me run before school. Back then, I did hate it with a passion. I thought my dad was just being mean. While growing up in Hawaii, I took on a lot more activity - Tae Kwon Do, surfing, scuba diving, cheerleading and running. Tae Kwon Do and running were my stress-relievers; the other things were just fun stuff.
