Shared my surgery news with my family...

Hey All,  Just wanted to post that I shared my surgery news with my daughter (in from college)...she is young and believes if I diet and exercise I can achieve the same results...I asked her how long she thinks I have been "trying" to lose weight?  She replied "...uuummm...ok...I think your right you may just need to have this surgery"  She loves me and went right out to Wally World and bought me a yoga mat and and a Pilates DVD for beginners...oh..and a new "shaker bottle".  Just an FYI...she is the one who bought me my treadmill two Mother Day's ago...

So all of my immediate family (husband, daughter and son) are now "on board" with me...just need to break the news to my aging parents...not sure when I will tell them just yet...they have their own health issues and will try to talk me out of it I am sure...uugghhh....well maybe after the new year starts so they have less time to badger me about it.  They both live with me so there is no getting away from them...so maybe I will wait until the last minute....yea...that's what I will do...

That's really a great daughter you have there. Good for both of you. Yeah, I think I'd wait until the very last to tell the parents.  I told mine what I had decided and gave my mother a lot of information. She's the scientist. Anyway, now they are my biggest supporters. My dad even said he has his little girl back. Isn't that sweet? I stressed my pain and comorbidities with them so they knew why the surgery was really the only option. When your metabolism is totally busted nothing else is going to work.

Hey Gina,  Merry Christmas...I do believe my daughter is the greatest...she too is the scientist...currently at John's Hopkins working on her Masters while at the same time working a lab at the NIH studying cancer...

My Mom is a retired Nurse...but very opinionated still...worse now that she is of the age that she really doesn't hold anything back...including her tact.  lol..  I too am my daddy's little girl...and I know they both love me a lot...I think it would be an enormous amount of explaination...and then I will end up just telling them this is going to happen and you really won't stop me.  After that I am sure they will climb aboard...just give me a hard time...I think it is the control factor for them.  It has always in the past been about food...and now it simply won't.  So it will be different for them...and for me...but for the best for all of us.

My sister was the hardest.  All she could think about were the risk and the germs in hospitals.  But once on board, she was a great supporter.  Even came to take care of everyone after surgery.

I hope your parents will get on board soon after being told.  You don't need any additional stress in the beginning.

That's great that they took it so well.  That's one weight off of your shoulders.

I told my Mom, Brother, and Sister a week before I had mine.  I figured a week would be a little less stress than months of hearing the stories and boy did my brother have the stories!  His stories were a great motivator for me because my goal has been  the success story that maybe he might share someday.

You will tell them when youre ready...Very few know of my plan for surgery and that's mostly because I won't be ready until March. I've asked 7 of my co workers who' ve had GBS if they would do it the surgery again and they all said YES, YES, YES!

I'm so glad your immediate family is on board with your surgery.  It is great to have the support.

Hope your parents will get on board also.  My dad was a little hesitant, but there neighbor had WLS and did a great job, so they talked with her and got on board.  My dad now tells me how proud he is of me for having the nerve to do the WLS and keeping it off for 3 1/2 years!

Good luck with your parents.

Linda
