Good Monday Morning WL Friends,

Happy New! Year first of all to Everyone and may 2013 be the best year ever!!  I am almost 2 years out from WL surgery and battle the evil Carb Monster on a daily basis so I continue to walk everyday and use my treadmill too!  I read over the weekend it is better to walk in the morning before breakfast than to walk after a meal!  I could really use some opinions here as I am unsure what is best!!  A small NSV even two years out happened for me this weekend...I was able to strap my watch band to the last hole in the band!!  Love my DS!!!

Good morning, S.S!

While I don't have an opinion as to when it's best to walk..I know walking is good for us.

LOVE the NSV!

Hello Liz   My WL S.S.

Thanks for your reply...I walk alot and enjoy it whether its before or after my breakfast.  I guess just doing the walk is a good thing no matter when you do it!!   Strange having a NSV almost 2 years post op but its still a great feeling!!   Looking forward to our 2 yr Surgiversary later this month!!

I think "when" is whenever you can make it part of your routine so it actually gets done.  At least for me, that is the situation.  I know you need some protein after exercise so maybe if you walk after, you could add a protein something after you walk.

Dr. Oz was just talking about this last night on something I saw.  He said it didn't matter when you did it or for how long at a time.  As long as you got at least 30 minutes or brisk walking in - I think he said at least 5 times a week-not sure about that part.  He said doing it longer than an hour at the time did not show any increased benefits.

Congratulations on your success!!

Linda

Hello Linda and thanks for your reply!  I didnt see that show with Dr. Oz but was curious to know what the difference was between exercising before breakfast or after.  I walk 35 to 40 mins per day and I try to walk everyday if I can.  Thanks for the Congrats too.

Your question got me thinking so I did a little "Google" research and came up with two things that seemed possibly valid from scientific research. One is that walking right after a meal is helpful in controlling blood sugar levels better than waiting an hour to walk. The other study showed that walking (considerable amount) before a meal had 25% improvement with small vein circulation and decreases triglyceride levels after a high fat meal so they were recommending that people exercise well before that holiday meal.
