Good Morning. Striking a balance

Ok, diet critics, this evening I'm fixing stir fried grass fed beef and organic baby bok choy.  I have a little steamed rice left over from DH's Chinese take out from Tuesday, which I may have 2 tablespoons. I will marinate the beef all afternoon in organic soy, ginger and garlic, use a little peanut oil in the stir fry process, since I use non-stick pots and pans, and use an evil corn starch slurry as a thickener.  Unfortunately, I've decided to cut my weekly trips to Whole Foods as part of my budget adjustments, at least until I can get this under control, so the next couple of weeks may be the last of my organic phase.

Discuss.

Sounds great to me.  I don't have a resource for grass fed beef anymore now that the farmer's market has closed.  I am trying to use beef and sausage flavored TVP in the place of beef when I can to cut cholesteral and fat.  I still have garden stuff to use in stir fry so I am buying basically 1 veggie a week to suppliment the garden and freezer.  And if the weather stays this warm, I can plant peas soon.

Happy Aloha Friday!

Sounds delicious to me, Gina.  The family and I had Korean BBQ Chicken and salad last night for our dinner.  I'm probably going to do homemade soups (had an oxtail soup full of fresh baby spinach and a 5 bean soup in the freezer) and a nice garden salad for dinner tonight.

I do understand the whole budget adjusting issue.  With me having such a sensitivity to gluten, the grocery bill has gone up quite a bit in the last 6 weeks as I muddle my way through making the diet changes.  It's just amazing all the things that carry gluten in them.  My mom has offered to help out with basic groceries by adding some of the load to Commissary groceries when she goes - I give her the cash, coupons and list and she'll go.  I count myself as a lucky girl since they have a good selection of both organic and gluten-free products there now.  So time will tell if that adjustment is worth it.

Sounds good to me...but then I adore stir fry, dh is NOT a fan. So it's limited to about once a year.

Another name for Whole Foods is Whole Paycheck!

I don't know how close a Fresh Market is to you but their prices AREN'T as high and I love their quality as well.

Sounds good.  I love whole foods/pricey but great.  I understand what you mean about the price.

Our whole foods is in the East Valley and I live in the West Valley, so too far to drive on a reg basis.

We get our hormone/antibiotic  free, grass fed beef from my daughter-in-laws aunt.  Much less pricey that way.  We buy 1/4 or 1/2 beef at a time depending on what she has available.  It great beef.

I found a place in Michigan not far from where I live that is all grass fed/organic.  My daughter is really into it too and we discussed buying a quantity of meat and splitting it.

Theres a guy at work that I have good conversations about organic/grass fed with. He's also a firm believer in all the fillers used in feed and chemicals that are getting passed into our bodies.

Tonight is probably pizza... oh well...

Sounds delicious!  Beef smells sooooo good when its cooking!  Beef hates me, or more accurately my pouch hates beef....  and pork..... and chicken.   Guess what, I eat a lot of soup, fish and seafood  lol
