So I tried Zumba

We are NOT gonna be friends...way too much bounce on hard surfaces for my back. Next week, I am gonna try water zumba tho...figure it has to be easier on the back.

We started back with a gym this past week. While we can't afford personal training, we did get one session each. The nice thing was, we had been with this trainer in the past so he was aware of limitations.

But the gym we joined has locations in the Asheville area so once moved, we can continue there.

I don't think they have water zumba around here.  I loved Zumba, but I like to walk/jog better.  I need to get started back.

I need to join a gym and do some weights to try and get some strength back.  I used to be a lot stronger than I am now.

Hope you like water zumba - let me know how it goes!!

I certainly modify my Zumba and my feet never leave the floor.  My knees hurt more after the water zumba, I think because I do more bouncing. though the water is supporting me but I still have more impact than I do with land because I am less cautious.  I love my muscle pump calss too.  Weights to music, light weights but lots of reps.  I just do better with a class than i do on my own.

Even with my feet firmly planted, it was just too hard on my back.

What I did enjoy last time I was a member was the water aerobics that they offered. It was designed for those with mobility issues, esp arthritis. And the instructor had been given special training in the arthritis type classes.

There are other things for me to try on "dry land", but even if I do the water classes for most of my visits, it still works.

I've lived in many places...Asheville is in the top of the list but to be honest, if it wasn't for family...if dh and I only had ourselves and not kids/grandkids/parents, etc, we would head back to Pittsburgh. We LOVED it there.

Asheville has family...and it is a great place.

I would so love to try Zumba...I love to dance...well when I was younger I did...anyway...as soon as the doc gives me to ok to proceed with excersize (well more than walking) then the local Y has a Zumba class twice a week and if I like it, then I will most likely sign up and start getting this progressively thinner body in better shape....

Lucy, it's great for those who can do it...but with two rods and 6 pins in my back, I'm not as mobile as I was 10 years ago. I did give it a go tho so I don't feel too bad.

I would definitely try it.

Congrats for giving it a try!  It sure looks like fun.  I do Curves and haven't yet built up the courage to try the Saturday Zumba class.
