Well I have my date ( april 10 ) but I am struggling keeping my weight steady. I am presently 4lbs over my last appointments weight. My doctor is extremely strict with this. If I am not at or below starting weight he will not do surgery. I have 12 days till my next weigh in and I'm basically not eating anything except a jello a day until then trying to loose this four pounds. Yesterday I ate about 1000 calories but I wont get to that weight in that amount of time if I dont stick to  less than 100 calories a day. I get weighed the 8th and the 18th. I have to loose 4 lbs by the 8th and at least 2lbs by the 18th and maintain until the 10th of april. WHAT is wrong with me???? This is my life I'm screwing with. I did so good yesterday and did not eat anything all day, then around 8 last night I ate a sf pudding, 2 egg whites 1 whole egg cheese and ham in the eggs and heres the kicker, I had almost 4 whole biscuits!!!!! THOSE ARE ALMOST 700 CALORIES!!!! All the while I wasn't even hungry!!!! so today, once again I'm trying not to eat. I only have till the 8th to loose what I've already gained. My doctor is serious about this. I am really screwed up in the head if I can't do this. UGH

WLS surgeons are a dime a dozen. I don't think I could put up with a doc that has that much of a god complex. You're the customer here and you could fire him in a heartbeat. If you could lose on your own you wouldn't need WLS. I'm sorry his over-the-top process puts so much stress on you and his patients. : (

I agree with Gina...find a new surgeon. This one thinks he's GOD! You are his customer not the other way around.

You do not need the pressure and stress!

thanks guys,

I'm kinda stuck with him unless I wanna go through another 6 months of dietician meetings and re doing all of my testing. I have waited almost a year already through testing and dietician I just dont think i have the strength to wait any longer :( I'm just so stressed and feel like such a failure. I am doing good so far today not eating but boy am I hungry. I don't understand why he expects me to loose weight. If i could I wouldn't need the surgery. UGH :,(

So sorry you're stressed out {{hugs}}

I agree wholeheartedly; If we could lose weight on our own, we wouldn't need the surgery. There is so much more going on in your body than your will power. Our biology fights to keep us fat and it's much stronger and more persistent than our minds. We have hormones that signal us to eat more often than thin people and our metabolism slows when it detects a prolonged drop in calories. I'm sure our bodies do all kinds of other things to make sure we cannot maintain weight loss.

So, diets don't work for the long term, but they do work for the short term. I would think about ditching your starvation plan and look into doing Atkins, Optifast, WW, or some other plan. If nothing else, you'll drop a bunch of water weight right off the bat and maybe even lose a few more pounds before your surgery. Good luck and keep us posted.

You should check with your insurance co to see if all your tests and required visits would carry over to a new surgeon. If not and you have to keep this surgeon,you are going to have to wait anyway if you can't stay on a plan to lose or maintain. Not eating all day is ridiculous and obviously is not working. It is making you so hungry you are giving yourself permission to binge at night. You need to stop this ASAP, maybe try eating a huge salad at lunch with all the non carby veggies and some chicken shrimp steak etc on it. Eat the same thing for dinner and any other time you are hungry. Fill in the time between lunch and dinner with all the broth jello etc carrots celery you can hold. Maybe a protein drink or yogurt for breakfast.

You must stop trying to not eat all day. I is totally sabotaging your efforts. I too would try to switch surgeons,ESP if you are going to be denied your surgery anyway if you gain,what is the difference in starting over and being continuously denied because you can't stick to a diet? I wouldn't be able to either,but I also wouldn't keep an ********urgeon who thinks he is god.

I don't think that's true that you'd have to start over with a new surgeon. When I switched surgeons, my new one took my psych eval and my nut eval from my old one.

you are probably right, and with me being in the pittsburgh area you are definitely right about surgeons being a dime a dozen. There are tons of them in the area. The ****ty thing is that I wasn't even required by my insurance to have the pre op visits I only needed testing done and then the surgery so I've been stressing every month for the last ten months and now he is using my original weight which means i have to loose ewight before he will touch me. UGH how frustrating. I am going to look for a suitable surgeon tomorrow. I'll let you guys know what I find out. THanks :D

Good luck.  I hope you are able to figure something out.  I'll bet when it comes down to it, he would do the surgery anyway - it is his living...

You can't stick to less than 100 calories a day.  Your body will go into starvation mode and hang onto every extra pound you have.  You would be better off to do proteins for 3 meals and have one sensible meal a day, but you wont' be able to stick to this very long prior to surgery. I had to do this for 2 weeks prior to surgery and it was really hard.

don't try to starve, it doesn't work.  Go high protein, low carb.  Eat every 2-3 hrs.  keep your body going, not shutting down.  You can do this.  You are on the home stretch.
