Emotional eating

I don't think we are ever rid of emotional eating. Every day I struggle to separate triggers with my response or behavior. Some days I win, some days I don't. I'm realizing again that if I am going to eat in response, I should make it a protein rich response.

Just today I was looking at my retirement financial plan and realized I'm screwed. My response was to move up my shopping trip. A better response than eating, but a pretty crappy response if I'm already in the dog house on my savings.

When I can, I'm going to use this forum to air my grievances. Perhaps you'd like to join me.

Better to rant here than the Food Court!!!

I have had such a sweet tooth lately.  While heating my lunch today, they had a program on TV in the break room and they were talking about even Sweet & Low and other sweeteners causing you to want more sweets.  I use a lot of Splenda or Sweet & Low.  They suggest using Stevia or something else - I can't remember the name of it because they don't cause the cravings for more sweetness.

If we had not been required to do state retirement I would probably be in bad shape too, but it was mandatory for state employees so mine is there for me in a few years.  It was aggravating earlier in life when I would need the money, but I am so thankful for it now.  I try to tell my kids to make sure they are putting back and to not touch it, but I know it is hard.

When I was a newbee, I remember someone posting that they operated on your stomach, not your brain.  Why are we so surprised when we have the same responses we have used for so many years.  Emotional eating doesn't hit me unless the stress is really bad.  Then I first make sure I am very hydrated, then go for protein.  Then if I still can't stop, I hit the celery or some other very low calorie item.  by then, it is time to eat again anyway.
