SO all you know that I'm struggling

I know you do not want to start over but what they are doing is ABUSE, plain and simple...Emotional ABUSE and something NO one should ever tolerate.

I would be tempted to call him on it...after all, YOU are paying for this. I would also report him to your insurance company for his treatment of you.

There HAVE to be others near you...it might really be worth it for your state of mind. Why give this man that much power over you?

Good luck.

Gosh - I am so sorry you are having to go through this.  Stress alone can cause you to have a gain, but all your body is going through right now I don't know how he expects you to lose weight.

Please don't starve your body.  This should be a time of excitement and anticipation not totally stressing out.  I sure hope everything works out for you.  I'll be thinking about you.

I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this.  How awful and I agree with everyone else.

If they weigh you for the scope, it won't count towards your weight loss at the surgeon's office.  It will only be used for anesthesia related knowledge.  They need to know how much you weigh so they can administer the proper amount.  When I just had my foot surgery they asked me - and that was good enough for them.

Quite frankly, after surgery and once you're home - at your final follow up appointment I'd say "I'm firing you for the way you mistreated me pre-op - what you did was totally unacceptable and I won't tolerate your bullying any longer.  I will find support with my PCP."  Then walk out.

If he does refuse - then do find another surgeon.

thanks guys, I had my scope and there were a few issues. I have some irritation from the acid reflux and I have a small hernia. Other than that all looks well. When I called to find out if I could get in earlier today the secretary told me AGAIN that if there isn't weight loss friday that I will not have to go to the pre op appointment on monday because my surgery will be cancelled. I just wanted to cry.

I may have missed it but do you have insurance approval already? If your insurance has approved you you can switch surgeons without having to go back 6 months and start over.

I have Medicare, too, and as long as the surgeon says it is medically necessary and you are at least 40 BMI they will pay, no questions.  As far as that jerk of a doctor I would be calling every WLS surgeon I could find and see if they can take over with what you have already done.  Interview them and find out their position as far as weight loss before surgery.  My surgeon didn't have us do a special diet, nothing except nothing by mouth after midnight.  I managed to live.

Your surgeon has some kind of God complex and at the very least very little understanding and compassion for people who are morbidly obese.  The reason you are having surgery is because you aren't able to do it without, otherwise you would.  Doesn't he get it?  If you didn't need surgery to lose weight you wouldn't have the weight to lose.  I am sure there are other good surgeons near by who would love to get the money from Medicare.  You are the consumer and you pick who does your surgery.  If you don't what he is selling find someone else.  Even if you wind up waiting a few extra weeks you will be better off.  And who knows?  It may not take as long with a different surgeon.  With my first WLS all I had to do was the normal pre admission testing.  No pysch evals, no classes, nothing.  That was nearly 11 years ago and I am sure (hopefully) they are screening patients better but I doubt it.  I didn't have any different requirements 2 1/2 years ago with my revision.  I saw my surgeon on a Thursday and the Friday of the next week I had my revision.

WLS 10/28/2002 Revision 7/23/2010

High Weight  (2002) 240 Revision Weight (2010) 220 Current Weight 115.

Im calling another surgeon tomorrow from the area. I can watch their seimnar in a webinar and print off the paperwork I need for the consultation. I want to talk to them and see what their requirements are. AND maybe start with them if their requirements are super long pre op diet

Good...

As far as Medicare, mine paid without issue because I qualified...I had the comorbids to go with my BMI.

I will say that Medicare Advantage policies do require pre-approval and will issue the paperwork to go with it but as long as the surgeon operates at a COE and is on the list to accept the policy (Medicare or the Medicare Advantage policy) then they HONESTLY do not care who the surgeon is.

So good for you for looking for a new surgeon.

A well known DS surgeon stated to one of his patients that if losing weight pre-op was easy to do, we would NOT need surgery.

And after you get your surgery, let the current surgeon know WHY you fired him and his office. It might help the person coming behind you.
