Weekend Away - Failure
I had a wonderful time away with my boyfriend this weekend. However, I went carb crazy. It was as if I thought vacation meant a vacation from low carb high protein eating. I am truly ashamed and up on the scale not surprisingly.
I want to learn from this experience. What do you eat when you are in restaurants? B, L, and D would be helpful.
I just feel so fat and unattractive. I'm really down.

DH & I were in your beautiful city last month for our vacation. Breakfast was easy, included with the room. We chose scrambled eggs most days. I did splurge and had oatmeal twice. I just made sure it was a small amount and that I got my protein. For lunches, we went to our favorite places, asked for veggies instead of starchy sides and we split entrees. We also brought leftovers back to our hotel in case we got hungry late. The room had a fridge and microwave so this was possible. For dinner, we pretty much did the same as lunch, split something. You should know that my DH also has a VSG. We tease each other that we are a cheap date.
I have 2 friends with RNY, their DH's haven't had WLS. They also split when they eat out or travel.
Oh, we also pack protein snacks like jerky for the road. We don't eat a lot of protein bars, but we do use them when we travel. It isn't the best choice, but it sure is better than other things we could eat while away from home. They also come in handy while doing recreational activities. We carried one with us when we went skiing.
Don't let the slip ups stop you. Get back on track and what you gained will come back off. Drink lots of water, get your protein and exercise, and go back on plan. You can do it
I eat sugar free and gluten free. I don't usually watch my carbs as long as I get in my protein first. Now a days more and more places have a gluten free menu so that helps me a lot. My stand bys are usually eggs. Most places have them and they are high in protein. Most places will also let you substitute the potatoes, toast and/or pancakes with fruit. I give the other stuff to my daughter or boyfriend. I recently had my teeth pulled and that limited my eating even further and I found that I could eat omelets with hollandaise sauce pretty easily. Other mainstays are steak and chicken, ,ground beef and pork chops. I usually get those things with a baked potato and vegetables and after I finish the meat I have a few bits of the vegetables and potato.
Last night we went to a pizza buffet and they had gluten free pizza on special order. I have also gone to Olive Garden and had gluten free pasta along with a chicken breast. It was actually a child's meal but they let me order it. Another option if my choices are limited is chili with lots of cheese and onions. If I have to have fast food I usually get a cheeseburger or chicken sandwich without the bun and steal a fry or two from my daughter. Salads with chicken is also a good choice.
Chinese places usually will let you order steamed chicken and vegetables. I love Mexican food and I usually get a taco and enchilada and eat the insides and maybe a bit or two of the tortilla.
Sometimes my kid and boyfriend want to go to a buffet like Hometown Buffet and I tend to get most of my food from the salad bar, along with whatever meat they are serving. I've been at this for a bit and it's a lot easier then it used to be. I don't even think about it now. I tell I'll go where ever they want because I have never been anywhere where I couldn't find something to eat. I don't look at myself being on a diet or even a special diet. It is just the way I eat now. I go to parties, holidays and potlucks at work with no issues. There is always something and if there isn't I bring something myself to share (at parties and potlucks). I can think of maybe one time where they just wasn't a thing I could eat but that was because of my teeth, not the choices. I just stuck with my original plans for that meal and I didn't feel like I was missing a thing. Well, a free lunch at work but I lived :)

I don't eat out much anymore, but if we are on vacation or something I still take my protein drinks.
I do a protein coffee for breakfast. If I decide I want to eat, I do it after my protein drink and usually have eggs or an omlet sometimes I'll have a bite of grits or a bite of a biscuit.
Lunch - I usually eat chicken or beef if Mexican I get fajitas but don't eat the wrap. If we are at a steak place, I will eat some of DH's steak and order me a side salad. Same for supper.
I try to take something to snack on like nuts or yogurt.
Just get back on track - we all mess up!! You can do this.

i just got back from a carby weekend. It happens. Just get back on the wagon and back to the program. My scale was up also on Sunday when I got home but a day or 2 with really low carb and I am usually back where I need to be. Sometimes it is the sodium and water weight and sometimes it is that I poo less when I am away. Anyway, it usually goes back down pretty soon.
Resturants: Breakfast, eggs and meat. I try to stay away from buscuits, bread, pancakes, whatever.
Lunch, salad w/ meat or the insides of a sandwich
dinner, meat and veggies, no rice, pasta, etc. Sometimes I just order an appitizer or soup. Sometimes DH and I split an entree.
We have a time share so most of the time when we travel we have a condo. We don't eat out much and when we do, we can bring leftovers home to heat back up later.

One thing that really helps me is to have things along that are very protein focused...cheese, protein bars, greek yogurt, nuts, etc. Pre surgery I would use traveling often as an excuse to go hog wild and eat junk. Now, I try to make a protein coffee if I have a microwave around. Last month I was on a cruise...my 2nd since surgery....
B-coffee, eggs, small amt of bacon...hard boiled eggs
L-protein focused..chicken or any meat protein including deli meat, cheeses etc, soft taco, etc
D- again...start with a lower fat meat. I am lucky and as long as it isnt dry I can eat meat. I always try to pick PROTEIN, PROTEIN, PROTEIN.....
You can start again...today is a new day.....
I went on a cruise 3 years out and was just amazed and the carbs they served. Seemed everything had pasta in it. I found it very difficult to find something to eat - and that tasted good, except for breakfast. If I found baked chicken I thought I was in heaven! LOL...
