started pre-op diet and I cheated!
OMG! I love this suggestion. I am on my preop liquid diet, too, and can't seem to find anything I really like. Soup from the deli is a great idea. I know where I'm heading tomorrow!
BTW, don't feel bad about a slice of pizza. I caved yesterday and ate some potato salad and chips and corn salsa. I can't wait until I know I physically won't be able to eat what I did yesterday because mentally I knew I could.
Two biggest things I learned on here was protein coffee (saved me post surgery when shakes started tasting weird....I think milk actually tasted different after surgery) and protein ice cream. Still have at least one of these every day more than 2 years out.
Keep posting and reading as someone's previous experience or thoughts may come in handy. And now you have a surgery buddy!
Good luck you two...
I did a lot of Unjury chicken soup after surgery because everything was too sweet and warm sat much better in my new tummy than cold did. It has a lot of sodium but right after surgery it won't hurt you and is a great way to get protein in. I still use it in brocalli soup, etc.

I really hoped I would like the unjury broth but hated it. I had bought a big container too. I gave it to someone in support group.
As far as the protein coffee Gina has her full proof method. How I make it....I make a slurry with a small amt of water and my chocolate protein powder (1 scoop). I then mix in warm (not HOT) coffee and mix quickly with a spoon. I slowly rewarm in microwave about 30 sec at a time and stir after each warming. Keep doing it until it is hot enough. I drink this every morning at work.
Protein ice cream is easy....make your favorite shake (I use syntrax mint and cookie....YUMMMM!) and plop in an ice cream make. I originally had a small ice cream maker made by hamilton beach (you can buy at walmart, target and big lots) but I now have a cuisinart as I make three batches at a time and freeze. Dont even miss ice cream and it is my nightly treat. I make it with almond milk to cut down on calories....early out you need the protein but I get plenty of protein each day.
Good luck!!!
The pre-op diet is supposed to remove glycogen from your liver so it's less slippery to handle. There is absolutely no reason it has to be liquid. In fact, if you drank soda all day -- which is liquid -- it wouldn't work because carbs top off your glycogen, they don't remove it.
What you need to do is eat high protein and low carb. And you can do that without drinking liquids at all.
Which means, if you are going to "cheat," you should eat some cheese or a steak.

I did something similar and i felt so guilty! I didn't have pizza though its not so appealing to me were all different. I had lettuce wraps with roast beef and mustard. oh they were yummy. I still lost 9# but i only did this when i was desperate and then the last 3 days i stuck to the diet like glue. NO Carbs i think that is good advice. I don't think it is good to cheat but OMG i know how hard this 14 days of liquid are. The SFJello was helpful because it has no calories but fills your tummy well. Sometimes when i was really hungry i drank my atkins shake fast to help me feel full. We are all aware of how hard it is and it is important to follow the rules as closely as we can. Hopefully in the future they will perfect this more and allow more choices for this preop period. I still can't stand those shakes i may never in my life have one again after a whole month of them. Pray for strength it is a hard but with the right help we can do this. Were never alone. Praying your time passes quickly and you are on the losers bench with the rest of us soon:)
