Should I watch calories and carbs now???
Well I had a distal RNY in 2000. They say after 18 months you start absorbing the majority of the calories you eat. So those soft calories and drink calories sneak up on you. I started gaining weight about 7 years after surgery when i had a car accident with meds, slider/soft calories, etc. It is easy to gain weight that way especially from drinks. I have a coworker that gave up soda for Lent and lost 45 pounds in that month. I had the same problem you had, I had my pouch checked its still small and my stoma is in tact. But i don't eat protein and basically only eat the side dishes. CARBS and FATS. I have a problem eating solid foods my body rejects it and it comes back up. Like they say back to basics. Also drinking while you eat will help those calories sneak on in there.
Its good that you are taking action NOW. Don't do like I did and say well its just ten pounds as long as i don't get to 140. Then I was like as long as I don't get to 150 and on and on until hello 220. Treat 10 pounds like it is an emergency to get it off. So for fear of gaining the other 150 pounds back I went to see my bariatric doctor. I'm now seeking a DS which has a life time of not absorbing the full calories unlike the RNY.
Good Luck
Thank you so much. I know that my pouch is still the size of a small orange because it was checked a couple months ago. I wanted to have the DS but insurance wouldn't cover it until after I had the RNY. I am treating this like its a big deal. I would like to keep it around 140 lbs so I have about 4-5 lbs to loose. I will keep at it and watch my fat and carbs.
