Vitamin D

Ok got another call from my pcp last night because my K is off the charts. I asked her what my D was at and she said 113 so I was thinking of maybe taking it about 3 times a week (50,000) or do most of you lower your dose. My PCP wanted me off for two weeks but I'm thinking that's to long? I haven't taken any D for 4 days now. I haven't heard from my surgeons office yet it takes him a while to get the blood work results? I have my labs checked a lot but I feel like I can't seem to get it to even out that I'm always on a roller coaster.

Thanks in advance,

Trish

I take 50K 3x per week.   I use the large dose , IMO less pills is better.

How often do you take it now? I like to keep mine over 75 but under 100. So if mine was 113, I might not do anything different or I might cut out 10-20% of my weekly dose. But not a lot more than that because I wouldn't want it to get too low either.

Right now I take 50,000 IU once a week and 2,000 IU every day in other pills. I can't cut out the 2,000 because they are in my calcium and my multi. If my D comes up high, what I do is not take the 50,000 IU on weeks where it's summer and I'm out in the sun all weekend. And that keeps it under 100 but over 75. So I end up taking it maybe 40 weeks out of 52.

I'm due for labs but mine got pretty high, over 100 when I was doing the 50,000 4x a week.  When I ran out of those, I started doing 2000 a day.  I too want to keep mine over 75 but my Dr doesn't like it when I am over 100.  Interesting side effect, I think my skin is better when I keep mine up.  I have some hand exema when it gets low that goes away when it is up.

Hi,

I've been taking 50,000 a day since 12/2012 maybe I'll cut it back to 4 times a week and try that. My doctor didnt like it at all when mine went over 100 either Price. I like all of you would like to keep it between 75 and 100.  I also stopped my K for now it was pretty high. Thanks for your thoughts lady always appreciate what everyone else is doing.

I walk a FINE line between what is enough and what is not enough.

When I was taking 50K every day, mine drops to about 70...but every day at 50K and ONE day at 100K, it sits about 112.

And while D is important, also watch your PTH. If it is high, you aren't getting enough of D and Calcium for your body, regardless of how much D you take.

Not all labs use the 35-100 range. Many are still using the 30-75 range. TBH, they keep moving the range...as more studies are done on the importance of D.

It is easier to drop D than get it back up. Maybe subtract ONE day off your current then see what it tests at. Also I wouldn't stop K altogether but cut it in half until it's retested.
