Topic: RE: I feel like my life is on hold while waiting for surgery
Good luck on your journey! I'm not self pay, and will have my surgery in July. I did want to mention, that some doctors require 3 months supervised diet before whether someone has insurance or not. At least, that was the impression I received from my surgeons office. Everyone has to go thru the supervised diets, psych testing, pre-op classes and everything. I'm just mentioning so you an be prepared if that is what they do.
Like I said good luck andkeep us posted!

Topic: RE: What is your favorite food tracker?
I had been using fitday, but have switched to my fitness pal. It just seems easier, neither count net carbs, just total carbs.

Thanks again for all the great input.
I'm sticking with the sleeve. I, too, have seen people lose on strict diets and gain it back and more. And, like I said earlier, after re-reading the post-op diet, after time my surgeon's diet is basically protein, veggies and fruits and occ whole grains. That seems more doable and realistic for me.
Thanks again!

That's what I thought about the shakes and bars. I'm sticking with surgery as I feel it will help me the most, and while I realize after surgery I need to be low carb,I would like fruits and an occasional pasta or bread.
Thanks for the input!

I called my bariatric center and talked to the medical weight loss side about options there. In a nutshell, they offer low cal low carb 800 calories day four shakes and bars, then one lean meat meal with vegetables. She said they keep body in ketosis to lose weight. She said I would be good candidate as my labs are all good. Weight loss is about two to three pounds a week. Maintenance follow up is for a year. She said one of the main things vs surgery is I would have to work harder to keep weight off. Exercise at least 3-4 times per week for an hour. She said I have to be motivated and give up carbs entirely.
What do you all think? I told them not to cancel surgery date, this is about the only thing I have not done.
Thanks!

Topic: RE: Questions on hair, skin and travel.
Hi,
I was just wondering when people start noticing hair loss/thinning and how long that seems to last. Also, how many pounds lost did people start to notice issues with loose skin.
When I am about 4 weeks post-op, my husband and I are going on vacation to Washington DC. We have never been, and my understanding there will be a lot of walking. My surgeon said OK but to get out and walk during 10 hr car drive there, and that I will probably be tired. Anyone have any ideas on best way to enjoy trip. I'm so excited to go as we have never been. Also, I will return to work the day before we leave and work the day after we get back, both 12 hr shifts. The doctor's secretary had said she could make my leave go after our vacation, but I just did not feel right about that.
Thanks!

Topic: RE: what is the best "starter kit" for vsg?
So glad to read this post. I have purchased the Unjury starter kit and Celebrate vitamins. I haven't tried any of them at all. I also want to remember to take pics, etc, so I can "see" my progress.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Topic: RE: What does surgery do to metabolism?
Hi,
Does one's metabolism slow down a lot after surgery? I have wondered about that as I feel like my metabolism is already pretty slow. If it does slow down a lot, wouldn't that make it a lot harder to maintain weight loss? I thought the surgery was a tool to help with weight loss.
Hope this makes sense.

Good job! That is something I am hoping the sleeve will help me learn to do!
Has your surgery helped with your mindless eating?

Thanks for all the information on Vitalady! I am going to check it out. I rec'd some free samples from Celebrate & the starter kit from Unjury which I am going to try those after surgery to see what I like.
Thanks again!

I should say I would like to lose 80-85#, my daughter thinks 50 would be fine.

Topic: RE: Daughters still not supportive.
Hi,
My surgery is just over two weeks away and my youngest daughter, who is a nurse as I am, keeps texting me about a patient she heard of that threw a clot on day 1 post op and died. And why would I have surgery to lose 50#, and don't I want to see my daughters and grandsons grow old? I told her not to keep telling me every bad thing she has heard, as I have thought of this things. It was hard enough to admit that I should have surgery, and to commit to it, I just want positive feelings going into it.
Thanks for letting me vent. I know they don't want anything to happen, neither do I, but I cannot stand being this big anymore. It seems like this is my best chance for getting my weight off and keeping it off.

Thanks for all the responses. I had my last Diet Coke a couple of days ago. I have switched to dunkin donuts decaf coffee (very good btw).
Thanks again for all the great support! I feel better when I am not eating junk, so that alone I need to get back with the program.

Hi,
I had my pre-op class last week, have been super excited. The end of last week I had an allergic reaction to something I ate - my rash is gone, but my hands and feet are still a little swollen (they had been huge along with my face) and are still painful.
Anyway, idk why, but I know I had gained about 5-6 # immediately from the swelling. Since I have felt like crap, also have quit caffeine this week, I have eaten everything in site. Now I'm worried I will gain weight before surgery and dr will cancel it, then I'm worried that I'm worried I will fail after surgery.
I'm so upset. I had been told all along not to lose anything cause my bmi was borderline. My pre-op diet is just to be clears two days before surgery. Most other patients were on liver reduction diet, I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and do that anyways.
Sorry this is so long. Why can't I get back on track!
Thanks,
Lynn

Hi,
I haven't had surgery yet, it is on 7/6. But, I can relate as I have gone back and forth on whether or not to have surgery the past year. Now that I have gone through the process, I am so excited and hopeful to finally get my weight off and able to keep it off.
Keep us posted!

Topic: RE: OT My Mother Passed Away
(((hugs))). I, too, am a nurse and agree with the hospice nurse, that death happens as it is supposed to.
I am an orphan as well and realize how lonely that is. Please take care of yourself. I am sorry you had such a horrible time with the car rental place.
Take care my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
