Friday mom and I completed our psyc eval and took our H. pylori test- everything was fine for both. The only thing we are missing before we can submit to insurance is the letter from my pcp. He has been taking his time, even though he knows i need it. Seems there's a different excuse everytime, but he promised to email it tonight, so we'll see. Good news: I lost 3 lbs and am back down to 245lbs.

Hurricane Rita...argh! We live in Houston and evacuated to Beeville, TX Thurs-Sat. What should have been a 2-3hr drive took about 8 hours...But, we were safe. Luckily it missed Houston, but my heart goes out those that have actually been affected by Rita. Obviously our appt 9/23 was cancelled. We are rescheduled for our psyc-eval now this friday 9/30.
P.S. The results from my biopsy came back normal!!! yay!!

Alot has happened since my last post...lets' see...

A couple of days ago I got the results from my Sleep Study- No sleep apnea here.... well they did note several instances of oxygen desaturation and extreme leg movement, but overall said i do not have sleep apnea. Mom also got her results and the result was the opposite- she has it! It explains alot for her though, and hopefully getting the CPAP machine will help her get better sleep.

Next thing was my GYN called. Back in June (my normal annual) I came up abnormal with stage 2 low-grade cells for cervical cancer. They did a colposcopy, which is a painful procedure in which they use acetic acid to highlight abnormal spots on your cervix and take samples for biopsy- i had 4 sites that needed to be checked. To stop the bleeding, they use a brown liquid which changes form- (an advance sorry to any gentlemen reading this) That caused brown, coffee ground-like discharge for roughly a week, which my doc said was normal. Totally gross! My results from that came back okay, so it was like, phew...! But my Gyn said i would have to come back every 3 months for another pap for the next year. I had my next pap at the beginning of Sept. Their office called yesterday to let me know that it came back abnormal AGAIN, so i have to do the colposcopy AGAIN....argh! otherbad news...my weight is up to 248 lbs- My highest recorded weight ever!!!

I got a phone call today from a nurse with my PCP. Turns out my doc is worried about my thyroid levels and has decided to start me on medication. Mom has been on Thyroid medication since she was 12, and all of her sisters are on it- we expected to see it in me earlier than now (I'm 22yr old), so i'm not surprised at all with this. The doctor explained that is probably the cuase of my rapid weight gain- 60lbs in a year and a half. The medication will help me stop gaining, but won't help me lose what I already have.

Also got a call today to set up mom and my psyc eval. Turns out the next available spot she had was next Friday 9/23, which fits perfectly with mom's schedule. I can't wait for everything to be done, so Dr Davis can submit for insurance approval!

Friday (9/9), Mom and I had our appt set up with the nutritionist, and to complete the psyc eval. Unfortunatly The psychologist, Mary Jo, had to go out of town unexpectedly, so we only completed our appt with the nutritionist. The only day Mom has off work is next Friday, so we'll call monday and try to get an appt for Fri. We both still need our letters from our PCP. Mom's is supposed to be ready on Monday. I need to call mine to make sure he has everything he needs to complete it. Since our next appt is, at the earliest, next friday (9/23) looks like we still have some time. I can't believe it's almost been a month since our intial consult... we didnt expect this phase of appt's to take so long... Just gives me more time to check out even more of everyone's awesome before and after photo's!

Completed my sleep study last night through Sleep Med out of the Methodist Hospital here in Houston. MY appt was for 9:30, but i arrived a little early. The sleep tech showed me to my room- it was a small private room with a queen bed, a bedside table, lamp, and tv. I watched tv until he was ready to hook me up to the machine. It took about 30 minutes to attach everything. I had 4 wires attached to my scalp, 5 or 6 on my face, 2 on each leg, 1 behind each ear, 2 on my neck and 2 on my chest. They then wrapped two velcro straps around me- one on my wasit and one a little higher. he then had me lay down (carefully) and attached something to my index finger. It didnt hurt, but it was uncomfortable-made my finger numb. after we tested the wires to make sure everything was on, he shut the light off for me to go to sleep, but left the tv on. It was hard to fall asleep with the noise of the tv. i woke up later and he had turned the tv off. I'm a stomach and side sleeper, so it was very hard for me to lay on my back. Before i knew it, it was time to wake up and remove the wires. I had glue marks on my scalp and face, so i hit the bathroom to wash it off, luckily it came off easily. They said they will send the results to Dr. Davis in 5-7 days.

I also had my appt with my PCP today. I discussed WLS surgery with him, and gave him a letter detailing why i would like his support in writing a letter of medical necessity. He agreed to write the letter, but would like me to complete some blood work and take a few xrays on my knees due to pain i have been having. He would also like the results from my sleep study, as well. He seemed enthusiastic about the surgery for me. But, it's a good thing we have to wait until sept 09 for my other appt, or i'm not sure i could have everything else done before then. Everything happens the way it does for a reason.

We completed our consult with Dr. Davis this afternoon. Mom and I went in together and talked w/ Dr about weight-related health problems, got weight, height, and blood pressure recorded. I am at 245, and mom is at 265. Next step, per Dr's orders, is to call and set up psych eval and meet with dietician, which are both done in the same day. Mom and I both also need sleep study to be completed. Once those are complete, and Dr has our letters of recommendation from our PCP, they will submit to insurance for approval. Due to trying to coordinate my full-time work, full-time school schedule with my Mom's work schedule, this step may take a few weeks to complete. Will keep you updated.
