St. Bernardine Medical Center

"My experience was not as good as I had hoped it would be. The check in process was smooth with paperwork, but beyond that there were many things that bothered me. My husband was not allowed to be with me while I was being prepped, it would have been nice to have him with me while getting IV, etc. Then, once I was taken to the holding area I was informed that it was going to be a while. The nurse was willing to call my husband to let him know it was going to be a while and not to worry. Recovery room, that was the pits, apparently nobody bothered to let my husband know that I was having difficulty waking up, they just let him hang out in the waiting room and worry about me. I am so glad they allowed my husband to stay with me. The night nurse and monitor tech were not responsive. The monitor tech the first night spend most of her time texting on her personal phone. My IV and oxygen alarms kept going off and it took a long time for someone to come fix it. It also took a couple of hours to get anti-nausea medication. The second night wasn't any better, same nurse. If my husband hadn't been with me, I don't think I would have made it to the bathroom in time. The day nurses though were much, much better. One even shared she had RNY done a few years ago. I believe it will be a good thing when Kaiser Fontana finishes their new hospital so that their bariatric patients don't have to go to this hospital. My husband had his surgery in December 2011 when Kaiser was still referring patients to an outside provider. That hospital was so much better. When it comes to the hospital comparison, he got a Lexus, I got a Kia. "
