Betsy - I just read your profile and can sympathise with you regarding your ups and downs with the Kaiser system. I'm so glad that you have persevered and won! I'm in the northern California region and started my own journey almost a year and a half ago. (I identified with you in another way, too! I home schooled our daughter for 10 years. She's now 22 and married!) May God bless you and give you a surgery date SOON!
Betsy, Congratulations on getting your approval. I wish you all the best and pray that the Lord will continue to bless you and keep you in his loving care. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I picked PB based on research and a recommendation from a friend who used them. My insurance allows me to see anyone I want without a referral etc. You do pay the price though. I have to pay a $500 deductible a year and 20% of all of my surgery costs. They will not reimburse my hotel stay since I chose to have it done at the best place which is 7 hours away. A new Dr. just started doing this surgery in Monterey. I spoke with the office and frankly wasn't impressed. The benchmark for a good surgeon is 20 procedures a month. The Dr. in Monterey was only doing 1-2 a month. When I went for my consult at PB with Dr. Zorn he actually knew of the Doc in my area. He didn't sound very impressed!!!!!!!!!! He didn't come out and say anything overtly but he definitely gave me the negative vibe about him. My friend used Dr. Tanaka and she has lost 145 lbs. I wish you luck on your own WLS journey. I read your profile and a few people that I know with Kaiser took a year to get through the process good for you getting things done sooner. Interesting that they aren't going to require you to have a psych eval I kind of thought the rules were the same for all of us. With regard to the labs I had to have two of them done which were left off. I guess Phosphorus and calcium aren't part of the usual tests. It only set me back a couple of days. Other than that things went pretty smoothly once all of my paperwork was submitted. The thing that took the longest was waiting for my dictation to be completed from all three appointments and then the letter of necessity sent to my insurer but it still only took a couple of weeks to get a date not bad. Let me know when you get your own date good luck.

Congratulations from a fellow Orange Countian. Thats great. Now, you can sit back and count the days. But be careful, they start to go faster than you think. Stay cool this summer, while you wait it out. At least you will be coming home to some cool weather after the surgery.
Wow,Betsy...I just read your entire profile and I'm sorry you are having so much trouble. It makes me really grateful for the easy time I had. I was very surprised by the way at how easy it was to get approved. I thought I was in for a fight. However, I live in rural South GA whereas you are in the great big state of California. Good luck and here's hoping you get approved soon!
