It's official! November 19th is my date with destiny!

Nov 09, 2007

Now I'll have two birthdays in November!  My real birthday is November 11th, and my surgery date is November 19th!

It’s one thing to think about it and initiate the process, but when you find out you’re approved, it can be a little bit mind-blowing.  It’s exciting and frightening all at the same time.  You know the saying, “Be careful what you ask for—you just might get it!”  That’s how I feel right now.  So, it really is official.  Insurance has approved it and the hospital called today to schedule all the pre-op tests (blood draws, abdominal ultrasound, EKG, spirometer, etc., etc.).  My surgery date is November 19th—right before Thanksgiving!  Too bad it couldn’t be right after.

Oh well, I’m just thankful that it all managed to work out!  There were a few hiccups along the way.  Well, just one big one, really.  Insurance coverage.  I’m still not sure how it’s going to sort out for coverage after November, but I’m covered for the surgery.  So, I’m moving forward.     (Happy dance, oh yeah!)

Paperwork submitted to Insurance.

Nov 03, 2007

After jumping through all the hoops, my paperwork has now been sent to the insurance for approval.  I am hoping that it will go smoothly, since I had to prove comorbidities, 6-month supervised, etc. just to get a REFERRAL to see the surgeon.

If the approval goes quickly, I may be able to still get a November surgery date.  As of right now, our insurance will be ending 11/30/07.  We are working on "plan B", just in case.

Wish me luck!
