After working with second level review I have been approved for Lap RNY surgery.  All I have to do now is get firm confirmation of my date.

I'm so excited!  I can't believe it's finally going to happen.  Will update as soon as I have my date!!!!!!

Well, my first request was denied.  Huge bummer there.  I've filed my appeal and hopefully it will get approved and I can proceed.

I have to admit, I'm pretty depressed about getting denied.  I don't understand why Tricare would approve me to see the surgeon and go through all the surgical clearances if they weren't going to approve the surgery.  My weight has continued to go up and now I've topped 240 for the first time in my life.  My stomach has stretch marks that were never there before and it's making me extremely self-conscious.  I'm trying to stay positive, but it gets harder every day...

The group consult went great!  I really liked Dr. S's associate.  He was very enthusiastic and explained everything.  Dr. S is much more subdued but everything I've heard about him says that he's amazing.

I talked to one of the insurance managers and she said Tricare was easy to work with and that I can do most of my consults on base.  Tricare usually gets back to them within 4-5 days with approval or disapproval.  They don't have much of a wait list.  The surgery date will be 2-3 weeks after I get approved.  I would love to have thisdone before my big trip in Dec, but if it doesn't happen that would be okay too.  As long as it happens, that's all that really matters to me.

Today is the beginning of my journey.

I have been approved to see a bariatric surgeon for lap RNY.  I can't wait.  My first experience with the doctor will be this afternoon at the group consultation.  I'm so excited!  One of the women in my office knows my doc and says he's great.  I hope everything goes well and I can get my surgery done soon.  I've been waiting years for this...
