Hello friends.  Paul and I both are very glad we had this surgery together so we can get thru it a little easier.  Paul down about 125 pounds and I am down about 110.  This is absolutely wonderful.  Took a trip to Vegas in August and I did not have to wear the seatbelt extender!!!  Yeah!!  Went thru our closet today and tried on clothes we haven't worn for years.  It was like going shopping all over again.  Thank goodness we have an outlet to get our clothes to others who need the larger sizes.  This journey is not always easy, but it is doable.  And there are so many WOWS that come our way that everyday is a new venture.  Being able to cross our legs - sits on Paul's lap - sit in a chair without fear of it breaking - walking up a flight of stairs without having to stop for air - saving all that money on our grocery bill!  And many many more.  We still have a ways to go, but we will get there.  This coming week I must have a hystorectomy due to a large tumor on my ovary and grade one cancer in my uterus.  Yes..I am a little scared about all this, but the Doc does think the surgery will remove all the bad stuff and no chemo would be needed, but will not know for sure until surgery is performed.  I plan on speaking with my WLS Doc at our October appt about any of this cancer stuff being linked to WLS in any way.  Really don't think it would be, but it would be nice to know if others have had this happen to them.  Really, I think it is just the luck of the draw and I got the short stick this time.  But please....all you ladies out there - get your annual exams and mammograms every year!  They are very important!  Other than that, all is well here in Round Rock Texas and I am under 300 pounds!!  Right now at 283!  Yippee!  Love and hugs to all!

Surgeon Visit Update

Jun 06, 2009

Hello to all!  Paul and I had our surgeon visit on Friday 6-5 and Dr. Sherrod was very pleased with our losses.  Paul has lost 88 pounds and I have lost 72 pounds since the end of January 2009.  We both find it absolutely amazing on how little it takes to "fill" us up.  Sometimes it drives me crazy...that head stuff you know!  Paul just keeps reminding me that we have 45 years under our belts of eating whatever we want.  We can't change our heads overnight.  Now we must give our bodies what it needs and be satisfied with that.  Still experiencing little "wows" and loving it.  Exercise is a must and keeping the fluid and proteins and vitamins are a must.   You know...the more I talk to people about this experience the more it helps me grow.  Thanks for listening friends!

Still Here!!

May 27, 2009

Hello to all!  Just thought I would post an update on our progress as of today.  Started having some serious heartburn that nothing would make go away,  Prilosec OTC - Pepcid - Gas X.....but last Saturday my Mom #2 gave me some liquid maalox and WOW....it worked!  Yea!!  So when I feel the acid starting to gurgle I hit the bottle..hahaha.  Paul has so much energy.  He almost can't sit still and he is looking so good!  Last weight check he told me about was last week and he is at 390.  No more 400's for him!  I weighed in this morning at 330!  Down 64 pounds so far.  I kind of got stuck last week and the scale actually said I had gained three pounds.  Think this was due to my lack of eating enough and definitely not getting enough fluid.  So....I got a 32 ounce big cup and I keep refilling with ice when it melts and refilling with water all day long.  Still have to take small sips or it hurts.  Hope that goes away soon.  We both are on regular foods, but we are still watching our carbs and eating good things.  Sweets don't seem to be a problem yet...and who could eat dessert after my three bites of dinner??  Hahaha...  It is absolutely amazing that our bodies continue to thrive on the little amount of food intake.  Last night for dinner we each had 1/2 cup salad with a petite pickle and one cup of light soup.  Where is there room for dessert??  Oh my!  We are still plugging along and thankful for all the good friends and family we have on our side.  Thanks for listening.

First Post-Op Doctor Visit

May 11, 2009

Paul and I both were looking forward to this first visit to check our vitals. We were pleasantly surprised!  Since our original weigh in Paul has lost a total of 54 pounds!  From 461 to 407!!!!  I have lost a total of 52 pounds!  From 394 to 342!!  Went ahead and asked our nurse to do our measurements and from 3/27 Paul has lost 11.75 inches and I have lost 10.50 inches.  This new sleeved tummy must be working.  We still work out on the elliptical and walking but need to do more...and we will!

Day Six

May 06, 2009

Finally feeling human again.  Today I worked half the day-went home and rested-went to see my beautician Wendy and got a new hair color and cut!  I love it.  I was looking in the mirror and sort of jiggled my face and my double chin skin wiggled!  I don't believe I have ever seen this skin jiggle.  When driving today my belly was about two inches away from the steering wheel.  I was thankful for my sleeve today because I was not hungry.  Only takes just a little to fill the space.  Having difficulty as it seems everyone does getting all the liquids down.  I would need to keep a bottle to my lips all day just sucking it in to get all I am supposed to.  Not happening!  Little miracles are gonna keep coming and Paul and I can't wait to get on the scale next week at our doctor appointment.  Thanks for all the great thoughts and prayers sent our way!

We are Sleeved

May 01, 2009

Oh my goodness...what have I done.  It is so very odd to go into the hospital when you are feeling well and come out feeling like sh**.  Paul's surgery went longer than expected because of an artery running where it normally does not so he had some bleeding.  They fixed him up and he has had little nausea and minimal pain.  My hero.  I on the other hand spent the night after surgery puking and puking about every hour on the hour.  Thank the good Lord for my angel Leona!  She spent the night with me and was always there at the first sound of discomfort.  They tried all sorts of anti-nausea drugs.  Finally got one to work around Friday afternoon somewhat, but today is Saturday and I am still queasy.  Not puking anymore though..that is a plus.  It is very difficult to drink the 30cc of propel water because it hurts.  Dr Sherrod said they had some difficulty getting the bougie down my esophagus so I probably have some irritation-damage there.  However he absolutely assures us that every sleeve surgery he has done, the recipient has been more than pleased with the results.  We just have to adjust and get thru these first days.  And we will.  We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers that have been sent our way.  Today we will be sleeping as much as possible to let our bodies heal inside out.  Will keep in touch.  By the way, when they weighed us prior to surgery, Paul was at 421 and I was at 358.  Here we go!

Doctor Visit Update

Apr 22, 2009

Visited Dr. Sherrod's office today to see Jerry the nutritionist.  Had some questions for him and needed to do a weigh in to see how the low carb diet was going.  Well....my weight today is 364!  I have lost 30# all on my own and I am so proud!  Surgery is still on for next Thursday 4/30.  Yea.  My husband Paul will go first then I follow.  Paul's starting weight was 461 and he is now at 422.  He already has so much more energy it is like I am married to a new man.  Oh yeah....that da** elliptical!  Paul and I are up to 7 minutes!  It is really nice to be able to view all the blogs here and I appreciate all the information that is being passed on.  Keep it up ya'll!!

Just Checking In

Apr 16, 2009

Hello again.  We are two weeks away from our surgery date and both of us are ready to go.  The diet we have been on for the last 1-1/2 months is working, but we know there is no way we can get to where we need to be without this surgical help.  We bought an elliptical and we are on it every morning and every night with a few slips here and there.  Paul is up to four minutes and and I am at five minutes.  I try to walk one mile every day during lunch time also to keep myself moving.  We go to the surgeons office next Wednesday for another weigh in to make sure we are on the correct path.  When we first started this diet thing the only thing I could think about was my Whataburger bacon cheeseburger with extra mayo.  It was calling me.  I finally gave in about three weeks ago and don't know what happened.  It was.....not good??!!??  For some reason, maybe the guilt, but the taste wasn't there and it cured my need for Whataburger.  Amazing.  Now...if I can just get over my desire for Dairy Queen ice cream.  Haven't been there to cheat yet and hopefully when I do go there in the future I will be satisfied with just a taste.  All the changes that are coming!!!!!!!  Keep us in your prayers that we are up to the challenge!

Getting Started

Mar 27, 2009

Had my last pre-op visit with Dr. Sherrod today along with my husband Paul.  We will be having our surgeries on the same day so we are both on the same page with our "new diet".  Dr. Sherrod wants to have a particular partner assist him with our surgeries so scheduling was an issue today.  But.....we are on the books for Thursday April 30, 2009.  Yea!!!  My starting weight at the first doctor appointment was 394 and today it is 379.  The nutritionist had put both of us on a "diet" and we are doing okay with it.  It took three weeks to drop the 15 pounds but it has not been that hard to do.  We are ready and waiting.
