Shrinking Gingerbread

~~ 02-07-06 ~~ 222 lbs (total loss of 13 lbs)

Jan 07, 2007

Happy one week to all.  I have officially lost 13 pounds as of yesterday.  I did put my scales away so I won’t be tempted to weigh obsessively.  I will weigh again next Monday.

My doctor’s visit went really well.  Dr. Syn said my incision looks beautiful.  I have been having major sharp pains on my left side and was afraid I had pulled something but he said it is from the retractors they use during the surgery.  So that should get better soon.  Until then Tylenol  is my new best friend.

Nothing else really to report, not much going on and things are pretty uneventful now.  I guess I should be thankful for that.  :)

~~ 02-05-06 ~~ 223 lbs (total loss of 12 lbs)

Jan 07, 2007

Happy day 6 to all my readers out there.  As of this morning I have lost 12 lbs.  12 POUNDS?!?!  OMG!!!!!!

I am feeling much better every day.  I haven’t taken any pain meds in 1 ½ days.  I am still unable to sleep through the night, which is very irritating.  I get up around 2am and walk around, use the breathing thing from the hospital to stretch out my chest, drink some water, and go back to bed around 3 or 330.  I am also still unable to sleep flat on my back or on my sides because it feels like a lot of  ‘pressure’ is put on my upper stomach/lower chest, so I sleep propped up on my couch.  It’s not too bad, it keeps me from rolling around and is MUCH easier to get up from then a flat position.

I am also getting better at walking.  My intention is to take my dog for a walk around the park next to my house twice a day.  Each time I can go a little farther and a little faster (and I do mean a LITTLE faster…still borderline mosey).  My old fart of a dog likes the SLOW walks as well  :-P

On a positive note I have been able to drink more liquid at one sitting so I am getting closer to the 64oz needed a day.  On a negative note I have found that I HATE the protein powder I bought so I know I am not getting in all my protein.  Every day I try it differently and have yet to finish a shake (more like a few sips).  But I know how important protein is so I will not give up.  Who knows, some day something may just click and I might love them.

Tomorrow is my official one week mark so I will weigh and post again.  Then on Tues I go see Dr. Syn and will let you all know how that went.

Talk to ya soon….

~~ 02-02-06 ~~ 230 lbs (total loss of 5 lbs)

Jan 07, 2007

I have been home now for 2 days and every couple of hours I feel better.  I was able to walk (more like mosey) ½ around my block today.  It felt so nice to get out of the house.  We stopped at a park bench and just sat outside for about 10 min.  I can honestly say I already feel like I have more energy than I did just a week ago.  Even though I move extremely slow I am not getting as tired as I was before.

I am having a hard time getting in all my liquids and meals.  Yesterday I only ate 4 times and probably only had 2-3 8oz glasses of water (crystal light).  I am still having the problem of air filling up my pouch and esophagus very quickly and that makes it difficult to drink anything, it makes me very uncomfortable and puts a lot of pressure on my insides.  I assume that will get better over time.

As of this morning I have lost 5 lbs in 4 days.

~~ 01-31-06 ~~ Well, I am home! And in tons of pain!

Jan 07, 2007

I had heard woman after woman say the pain is worse than a c-section... but of course I didn't believe them.  Boy was I WRONG.  The biggest problem I am having (minus the expected soreness) is a constant 'pressure' on my stomach and esophagus.  Plus gas is rumbling but not going anywhere.

Anyhoo, I am on the loosing side of life now and each day will only get better.  Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers; they were needed, felt, and appreciated!  I will update again soon once I am feeling better.

My story began like so many countless others on this website, so I won’t go into too much detail.  I was always ‘fluffy’ growing up.  I wasn’t fat, but not skinny either.  After high school I really got my figure and knew it.  I wore short shorts and short shirts.  Once I got a desk job in ‘corporate America’ everything changed.  Within the past 8 years I have reached over 240 three times now.  Just like everyone else I have tried EVERY diet known to man with little success.

So, here I am, 4 days until my gastric bypass surgery.  I am so unbelievably excited!  I have had my ‘goal outfit’ hanging on my wall for the past 1 ½ years; just staring at me, taunting me.  I know I will finally beat that outfit and wear it!

My reason for living is my precious daughter Christian.  She just turned 5 and amazes me, makes me laugh (and irritates me ;-) everyday.  The ONLY fear/doubt I have about this surgery is the chance of death.  I can’t imagine leaving her here to grow up w/o a mom to play with and rely on for the rest of her life.  Then I realize that is pretty much what I am doing to her now.  I can’t play w/her or entertain her for very long w/o being completely exhausted.  I know this surgery will allow me to be the mom she deserves.

I don’t know what to expect as far as how much I will loose a week.  I am prepared for a safe/slow 3 pounds a week, but in my heart of hearts am wishing for 6.  I have purchased two post-op WLS cookbooks and plan on walking ASAP.  So I am hopeful with planning and effort I will fall somewhere in the middle.

If I loose a steady 3lbs a week then I plan to reach my goal by Oct 30th.  If I can manage 6lbs a week then June 19th will be my goal date (that would be the ultimate birthday gift… my b-day is June 16th).

I will update my weight loss weekly so check back often.
