Not much change...

Nov 07, 2008

Well, folks, I haven't been on in a long time because not much has changed.  I'm stuck (permanently, I think) at 235, wearing Large & X-Large shirts & size 18 jeans.  I've gotten over being discouraged and am just accepting at this point.  Like I told Robin, tho, if I stay here I'm still glad I had it done and would do it again in a heartbeat.

I know that if I want to go further, I have to watch what I'm eating and exercise more (jeez - where have I hear THAT before!).  So I'm not going to beat myself up over it.  I am still Hellen, still alive, and still here.

My love to all,  H

Break the scale, but not my spirit...

Jun 11, 2008

I had weight loss surgery in September '07 & have come a tremendous way since then. I've lost 134 (give or take) pounds and am now wearing size 18 jeans.

The scales are stuck at 250 now. I'm learning to take it one day at a time and even tho I weigh every day (YES, I know that's not cool), I won't let it break my spirit. My spirit, prayers, my wonderful partner Debbie & friends like Robin, Rebecca, etc., are my strengths & I know I'll get to my goal.

I'm off ALL of my prescription meds & that's a TREMENDOUS accomplishment!! Not to mention a great way to save $$$!

My love to all & to my fellow WLS buddies - hang in there! Keep your goal in sight & never, never, never give up...  H

My first presentation -

Apr 26, 2008

Thanks to a great deal more self-confidence, I am proud to announce that on Friday, April 25th, I did my 1st New-Hire training session at work!!  This is a HUGE deal for me because a year ago, I wouldn't have dared get in front of 27 newly hired Verizon Wireless employees to train them on "Managing Your Time Off" which is the backbone of my team's responsibilities.  It was amazing, scary, rewarding, educational, and more.  I have to say, Rose (my teammate) was sooo awesome in backing me up, covering me when I didn't know the answers, and filling in the blanks.  Thanks, Rose!

This was definitely a "WOW" moment for me folks.  And I look forward to even more in the future.

My love to all!  Hellen

Blustery Saturday...

Apr 05, 2008

Can't believe I actually used the word "blustery" - but it's the truth.  The wind is howling outside!
All is well, tho.  I'm pretty flustered in that I seem to be stuck in the 260 range right now.  I know that we all hit plateaus & this one just seems to be lasting forever.  So far, I've lost a total of 124 pounds and have about 100 more to go, so one day at a time...
Keep it up out there!  You are ALL my inspiration...

Good Sunday, Good People!

Feb 03, 2008

I just saw I hadn't posted anything since December, so here's a short update...
I've lost 112 pounds so far.
I'm wearing a pair of 24 (sometimes 22) jeans & 2x (versus 6x) shirts.
Still walking (some).
Eating more regular food - the "switch" went back on a week ago.

So overall, I'm doing fine.  Hope everyone else is too!

Love & Hugs...

It's here, folks!

Dec 28, 2007

One of the big "WOW" moments I've been waiting for....

As of today, Friday 12/28/07 - I have lost 100 pounds! I got on & off the scale 3 times to make sure I was reading it right.  I was.

I know it's only been about 3 1/2 months, but when you start out as heavy as I was, 100 pounds is a heckuva start!

Now I know how others feel when they've reached this milestone - I've already applied for my "Century Club" card!

Thank-you everyone for your love & support.  My partner, Debbie - My angel, Robin - My bestest school bud - Rebecca!  Love you ALL very much...

...2 more WOWs!!

Dec 08, 2007

Drum roll, please..............

WOW #1 - his morning at approximately 9:50am, I stepped on to my home scale (not the one at work like a doctor's scale) and it said..........

298!!!!

So folks, the next goal is 250!

WOW #2 - Debbie & I went to Goodwill to get some children's books for the book drive we're having at Verizon Wireless and while she was browing, Debbie found a pair of size 24 & 22 Rider stretch jeans.  What the heck, we bought them.  Guess what?!  I can wear the 24s easy & the 22s aren't far behind!

I'm feeling a lot more optimistic now and can see some progress.  (It's a personal thing, I know the weight's coming off, but I had to have proof.)

Thank-you EVERYBODY for your wonderful support - especially my Debbie & my Robin & my Rebecca.  I love you all very much!

WOW Moments...

Dec 05, 2007

Just wanted to take a moment (since it's been a while) and list a few WOW moments I've had:

1. Being able to sit in my sister-in-law's kitchen chair!
2. Buying my first pair of Wal-Mart jeans in (I don't know how many) years!
3. Feeling my collar bone!
4. Walking 1/2 - 3/4 of a mile (without collapsing)!
5. Having to ACTUALLY put clothes away because they're TOO BIG!!!
6. GETTING OFF MY CPAP MACHINE!

It's a start, folks - the next entry will be when I break 300 (which is only a few pounds away).

Love & Best Wishes to All - Hellen

It ain't easy...

Oct 24, 2007

It's been a while since I've posted, but there's a reason.  I'm having some issues that are not all pleasant.  I've lost a total of 47 pounds and I am very happy about that.

Right now, I'm going thru a bad bout of constipation and still not eating (sounds like a contradiction, but it's real, believe me).  A lot of others have gone thru the same thing.  So I down the Dulcolax, up the water/fluids, and hope for the best.

It seems when I'm really in the mood to eat, I find something reasonably appealing, high in protein, chew diligently, swallow, and 2-3 minutes later - up it comes.

I have a problem getting in all of my meds each day, as well as my supplements.  Last week I went to Dr. B's office for a check up since my energy level plummeted, I wasn't eating or drinking.  They took blood & later I found out my iron was low, so in addition to everything else I'm taking, I'm now on iron supplements.

Debbie & Robin are so wonderful & supportive - I don't think I'd make it thru all this without them.  Thank-you, I love you both!

One Month Follow-Up

Oct 13, 2007

Went for my one month follow-up with Dr. B & weighed in at 339 - that's 45 pounds in 30 days!  WOW!  After checking everything out, I'm pretty much on track with "no appetite, lack of taste, etc., etc., etc.," to which Dr. Byrne held his hands in the air like a touchdown signal & proclaimed, "IT WORKS!" He can be so funny...

So that's where I'm at folks. Next wow moment will be when I break 300...

Stay tuned...
