I LOVE My Surgeon!!! and other pre op ramblings

Jul 19, 2011

My next appt is this Thursday! This will be my last pre-op appt. My Surgeon and I will go over all of those annoying tests and if everything is ok, I'll get my surgery date!!! The closer I get to Thursday, the more excited I get!!! I will only have to do a 5 day liquid protein/full liquid diet, so I can theoretically have the bypass within a week of my appt with the surgeon. Wow!!! That just blows me away!

I'm not nervous about the surgery. I have 100% trust in my surgeon's skill, knowledge, and abilities. He literally saved my son's life. My boy is 20 years old now, but he wasn't expected to live this long. About 2 years ago another Dr. told us that my son had "outlived the science" and that he need to be moved to a nursing home to live out the rest of his days. I didn't accept that and took him home. Dr.Davis at Emory University agreed to see him the next day. I thank God that we found him!!! Dr. Davis did some tests and performed a very difficult and rare surgery three days later. My son was in the hospital for 36 days, but he recovered. Dr. Davis not only added years to my son's life; he added life to my son's years. My son was able to have the feeding tube that he had had for 19 years removed!!! Now he can do just about anything that a "normal" 20 year old can do!!!  So, I'm not worried at all about the surgery. I am kind of freaking out about all of the details that have to be done before surgery to prepare for the "after" part!!! It's driving me a little batty!!! I'm sure you can tell because I'm rambling. Sorry.

It seems like most of the journey has been a hurry up and wait experience, and now, all of a sudden, there are so many things to be done in a short amount of time. Strange how that works, huh?
