Just received my pre-op packet
Mar 24, 2009
Ok.... looking through my pre-op packet which they call a "BARI-BIBLE". It's making this all seem more real, it's really about to happen. They have all my appointments set up as follows...
Tuesday, May 05- Cardiologist and EGD (GI Scope)
Thursday, May 07- Pre-op Dietary Education;
Thursday, May 14- FULL LIQUID DIET that day... Lord help me
Tuesday, May 12- Pre-op class
Soon after this on May 28st I will be having my surgery. So excited and ready. I was told that I have to pay all fees up front so I called Aetna to make sure I know what to expect. I learned that the max out of pocket I can pay is $1800 including my deductible. That's awesome!!!!! I am just prayer and getting myself prepared for what's all about to happen. So ready and anxious to get it all started. I am just studying my "Bari-Bible" because I have to bring it to class and what to make sure I am ready for all that they will be discussing. There's even a quiz at the end of it that I need to complete.... Anyways hope everything is well for everyone and remember to always keep the faith.

WAITING... WAITING.... WAITING...
Feb 11, 2009
Ok... well just talked with the insurance coordinator and she said that they are going to have to open a new case, but they are going to use my approval for the RNY as a reference. She said that they were still uploading my information in there system. Hopefully, I will here something soon. I am hopiing that I can get my same date of April 6th like I had for the RNY. Pray for me ya'll. Being very patient and hoping that it pays off. I am ready to hear the words "you are approved" !!

trying to get "switched" so I had to switch doctors
Feb 03, 2009
Hello All... well as I have said before I was approved for the RNY but soon after I learned about the duodenal switch. I was blessed in finding a doctor only an hour away from my house that performs this type of WLS. I had an appointment with him today and everything went very well. I had to meet with the dietitian first and soon after I got to meet Dr. Stevens. He was wonderful and so was his staff. He took his time to go over all my paperwork with me and answered all the questions that I had. I am so happy with having him as my NEW doctor. I am worried about how the new approval will go. The insurance coordinator said what they are going to attempt to do is call Aetna and see if they can just change the surgery code and facility instead of having to submit a whole new case. I am hoping that this will work. Hopefully, I will be hearing something is a few weeks. Pray for me ya'll!!!

I JUST WANT TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION FOR ME...
Jan 26, 2009
Ok everyone... as you guys know I was recently approved for RNY and had a date set and everything for 4/6. In the past 2 weeks I have been looking on OH and came across the Duodenal Switch WLS. I began to get very interested in this procedure and was beginning to think that it would be the better choice for me. I began to get angry that I was never informed about this surgery and wasn't given the opportunity to possibly choose it. I know that only a handful of doctors actually perform it so that's why many people haven't heard of it. So after a whole lot of research and a lot of sleepness nights I have decided that I don't want to settle for the RNY just because it's available to me. I am going to have to resubmit all my paperwork all over again and hope for an approval... I had such a hard time the first time trying to get an approval that now I am very nervous!!! So if God says the same I am hoping to get the DS. I have already made an appointment with a DS surgeon that happens to be only an hour away and I am hoping for the best. Pray for me ya'll!!!

Need Some Answers...
Dec 29, 2008
Ok friends I have Aetna insurance and couldn't be more frustrated!!!! I am having a difficult time trying to get this thing approved. I was hoping that one of you guys has Aetna and could give me an answer. I am doing the 3 month program where I have to go see my doctor for three consecutive months... Now once it is submitted does Aetna look at the three visits or do they count the days??? My doctors office is saying that they look at the 3 appointments, but I am being told my others that they count the days. If so I have only completed 54 days not 90 days. I have already been denied because of something like this. I want to schedule another appointment, but having a very difficult time trying to get in touch with anyone. So if anyone has an answer PLEASE HELP ME!!
I am sounding so flustered because I only have two days to get this other appointment in and the doctors office isn't calling me back!!
