THE STAIRMASTER IS OFFICIALLY MY BITCH!

I met one of my major goals today and finally hit level 20 on the Stairmaster.   Wore me out and I wanted to stop about halfway through but I stuck with it and after 2.8 miles and 140 flights of stairs I finished.

I ran the New Orleans Blue's Festival 5K run with a good friend of mine (Hunter McAllister)over the weekend.   It was a blast and we finished in the top 100.  We got a stupid little ribbon with a medal on it.  :)     After the race Hunter, his wife Bekka, his two kids and I went to eat sushi (my new favorite meal) and then we went to the Audobon zoo.   A perfect day.

Here's a picture after we crossed the finish line:

I have a new respect for the sport of boxing.   A buddy and  I decided to take up boxing so we both joined a gym in Baton Rouge.   I've trained on Tuesday and tonite and have lost a total of 11 pounds since starting.   I figured I was 'kinda' in shape until I started this.   Both training sessions have been hands down the most intense training that I've participated in since military and football days.    I'm in love with the sport and can't wait until I can learn to put some punches together and start feeling comfortable throwing them.   Too bad I didn't fall into boxing 15 years ago.

I've never really felt comfortable posting my before pics because I was so ashamed.   I've been taking pictures each month on the 9th and tonight was the first time I've looked at them and been able to really notice the major change in my body.   It really brings a tear to my eye to see me at the weight I was before the surgery but it's a part of my life I have to accept I guess and I think the lessons that I learned going through that will make me stronger and a better human being in the end.   Without furthur delay, the link below is my before and 'semi' after pics.  (I still have 40ish pounds to my goal)

Well I met another major goal today.  I'm officially 200 pounds down.   Really hard to belive and I'm so stoked.

Life is great!  :)

I woke up at 5:30 this morning and couldn't sleep so I decided to just get up and go to the gym for an extended cardio session.   I had to really push it to make an entire hour on the StairMonster but I managed to do it.   It absolutely kicked my ass though because I've spent the last 2.5 hours recovering.  6 miles total this morning and around 1300 calories burned.

Speaking of calories, I remember from college that one pound of fat is approximately equivalent to 3500 calories.   I thought it would be fun to calculate the total amount of calories I've burned since this journey began.   Well it's over half a million.   :)     654,400 calories since 22 March.   269,500 to go.

18 October 2006 - Running & New Clothes (kinda)

Oct 18, 2006

I guess I'll start using this blog format since OH changed their format again.

I'm running at least 2 miles now 3 times a week along with all my other cardio and weightlifting.    I added all the miles up for the cardio (stairmaster and running) and I'm going around 100 - 110 miles a month.  :)   I'm in serious training mode for the Crescent City Classic and the Louisiana Triathalon next year in March and April.   I should be at my weight loss goal by the middle to end of December.   What a great birthday (December 27th) and Christmas present to myself that's going to be.

I'm finally fitting into my old pairs of Lucky Jeans from a few years ago along with a closet full of old button down dress shirts, shorts and my old Harley t-shirts.  They will eventually be too big for me as I hit my goal but that's what Ebay is for.  20 pants sizes so far and 5 shirt sizes.

Well I think I've hit my first major plateau. I've lost maybe a pound in the last week and a half. In all honesty though I don't think I have been getting my daily 100g of protein. I'm making an effort to make sure that I drink those nasty ass drinks 4 times a day to get my 100 grams and see how much I lose by this time next week.

10 October 2006 UPDATE

Oct 09, 2006

I guess I spoke too soon. I weighed in today and according to the scale I lost 4 pounds since this morning. :) Maybe the plateau is over? 22 pounds in the last month. If I can keep this rate up I'll be to my goal by the beginning of January. On another note my blood tests for the 6 month checkup came back. Before the surgery my total cholesterol was 270ish with the bad cholesterol making up 150. (I don't know the unit of measurement for Cholesterol. Maybe it's Assblasteronians or something. Who knows.) Anyway, the blood tests came back with my TOTAL cholesterol at 137 and the bad cholesterol at 65. The nurse said I had the blood of a 16 year old. :) I've been drinking a glass of red wine every evening for the past 3 months. Maybe that has something to do with it. You'd be surprised what 1 glass of red wine does to a gastric bypass patient too. Heh heh. One word... loaded. What kinda wine you ask? Red Truck (<--excellent) wine from Whole Foods and that Australian kangaroo crap I can't remember the name of right now.

Holy crap! My buddy was trying to convince me to run a 5K in Ponchatoula next month and I was bitching and moaning that I wasn't ready to start running yet. At least not start running 3 or more miles. I made a deal with him that I would try to run a bit today and see how my knees felt afterwards. Well... I started running thinking that I wasn't going to even make a quarter mile. I got to a quarter mile and wasn't really tired so I tried for a stop sign that was another quarter mile away. Made it to the stop sign with no problems. I kept playing that little game with myself until I was all the way back to my house at 2 miles! I really think I could have gone a little more too. I'm so stoked.
