6 months post op

Jul 17, 2010

Well I saw my surgeon for my 6 month check up.  He was very pleased with my weight loss - 119 pounds so far.  I asked him if I needed to lose anymore and he said no; said that I probably have slowed down in my loss and I have.  The last month I've been fluctuating between 1-2 pounds either way.  He said I could fluctuate 5 pounds up or down and that is normal.

I've lost 53% of my beginning weight, my BMI is 22.  So I think I'm good.  I feel better and I'm healthier.

I've posted new pics of the "new me" in my photos.  I can't believe the difference since my beginning photo and now.  Two different people.

Update on my progress

Mar 25, 2010

Well I'm 9 weeks post op and I'm very pleased with my success so far.  I've lost 79+ pounds in all and dropped 8 dress sizes.  I started with a 34 pound loss prior to the surgery but I am amazed at the weight loss since surgery.  There doesn't seem to be a day that I don't lose something even if that's only .2 pounds - I'll take it.

Sunday I went to the gym with my oldest son (age 29) and we were on the treadmill for an hour.  I was able to work up to 3.2 mph - the most I've been able to do and walk 2.5 miles on the treadmill.  I got my heart rate up to 122 which was the highest too.  Tuesday I went back to the gym and was able to complete the whole hour of water aerobics for the first time.  I feel good and I'm more active so I'm pleased.

My hardest time is coming home at night and trying to figure out what I want to fix for myself.  I'm still quite limited in what I can have, according to my doctor so it's hard to get motivated to cook.  Sometimes I only have a yogurt or fix one of the Bariatric Choice soups which have 15 grms of protein in them.  I wish I could have more of a variety but I know that will come in time.

Well that's about it for me.

Exercise

Feb 17, 2010

Well, I finally made it to the gym.  I joined in November and yesterday was the first time I have made it there.  I walked on the treadmill for 30 minutes and rode the bike for 20 minutes.  This morning my body is telling me I did it.  The back of my calves are hurting and my lower back.  But that's ok.  I know I need to do this in order to tone up.  My reward was dropping half a pound so I'm pleased.  I'm going to go to the water aerobics class tonight and try that.

Today is my 4th day back at work and I seem to be doing fine.  I messed up again last night as far as food goes.  I waited too long because I went to the doctor for my one month check up after work and then the gym.  By time I got out of the gym I was starving (or so my mind said so).  I ate too fast and got the dumping symdrome again.  Vomited it up.  Only was able to get 3 bites in but that was enough obviously.

Was glad the doctor added to what I could eat.  Said I could have vegetables - yeah.  Also said I could have lettuce but didn't say I could have dressing - does anyone know if it is ok to have any of that fat free spray dressing?

Out with the old in with the New

Feb 12, 2010

Well today I spent the morning weeding out my old fat clothes and bringing in my old thinner clothes that were being stored in the addic.  It was great to get rid of those fat clothes once and for all.

I'm down 58 pounds and 3 dress sizes.  It's cool.  I feel better about myself and how I look.  I'm looking forward to losing more as this journey continues.

My story

Feb 04, 2010

I have struggled with my weight since I was a teenager.  I wasn't obese but always felt overweight.  My father "lovingly" called me Pearblossom due to having larger hips than the rest of me.  My worst weight loss came after the birth of my last child at the age of 37.  I did two things at that time. I had quit smoking at the start of the pregnancy and never went back to that.  That was a good thing but as they say in the field of addictions - I just picked up food as a comforter.  I gained 75 pounds after that and it just kept going up.  While in grad school, at the age of 55, I joined Weight Watchers.  I had a lot of success with that.  I had a close classmate that did it with me and I was able to lose 70 pounds in about 7 months.  I was very rigid with what I ate. But once I started working in my profession, the stress and anxiety added to me returning to my old habits of eating.  I gained the 70 back and 10 more pounds in a year.

I had high blood pressure and was retaining fluids in my ankles and feet which necessitated taking medications to keep them for skyrocketing.  I also have degenerative arthritis in my back and knees, caused my accidents (back) and the weight.  I had collegues that had the surgery done and had great successes so I decided that I wanted to conquer this problem once and for all.

I added Kaiser insurance in 12/08 so that I could have the surgery.  My previous insurance wouldn't pay for it.  I attended mandated weekly classes for 5 months.  I'm glad I had those classes, they taught me a lot.  I had my RNY surgery 17 days ago.  I lost 34 pounds prior to the surgery and have lost 20 pounds since the surgery.  I feel pretty good.  Just need to get the routine down with balancing the protein and water, plus food.

I'm happy that I have joined this site because it has given me connections with you all for support.
