1st Blog pre-op

Jun 23, 2011

OK so I have never written a blog so I'll try not to bore you to tears!  At my first consult on June 22 I met with my surgeon who was super nice and he has been doing this a very long time! I have no doubts he will perform this surgery with no problems!  the staff at NEW LIFE were great and everyone of them were super sweet!

Since I am self pay I wasn't required to do as many tests as those with insurance.  The First thing I had to do was breath into this little blue bag it was the baseline for a test for H-Pylorus (if that's how you spell it)  a bacteria that causes ulcers.  they do this test to see if this bacteria is present in your stomach and if they need to start you on antibiotics.  Next  for this test they have you drink this lemon flavored fluid as fast as you can through a straw.  while that digests they started me on another test.

This test they clamp your nose shut so you can only breath trough your mouth.  They  make you breath through a tube for at least 10 minutes.  This measures your metabolism and when your done tells you exactly how many calories you burn in a day.  It was really cool.

Once that was done they had me breath in a pink bag as the sample for the first test.  They hooked each bag up to a machine that sucked the air out of them one at a time.  my results came back negative so I didn't need to be treated for the bacteria.

I left with a sheet telling me I needed to start a 1200 cal diet or lower.  I'm not sure how long I'm suppose to do this so I'm guessing its until the 6Th when I go to my diet class where i think they will send me home with my liquid diet stage.  they mentioned briefly the amount of 25 lbs. I think they want me to lose as close to that as I can.  And I have 26 days till surgery lol so its gonna be kinda hard I'm thinking.

But other than that I am super excited and ready to get this puppy goin!!
