My WLS Experience so far

Aug 09, 2010

Hey OH <3 Sorry I didn’t update sooner in my experience but here goes, from the beginning.   Preop Weight 305 SW 294   Surgery was 7/28 as planned. I was admitted at 11am scheduled to have surgery at 1pm. I had the Robotic Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy .  My boyfriend, who is still not happy with the fact I did surgery, was there with me. My mom had her revision two days earlier was still upstairs in the same hospital but they didn’t allow her to come down because she had complication, which I will talk about in another post. Anyways, I was sedated and rolled into the OR at about 2:30pm. In the OR in my sedated nonsense babble I asked to see the Robot and named him Johnny and told him to be gentle ;) I was the first patient my surgeon used the Robot with. Surgery lasted about 2 hours. I woke up in Recovery with severe nausea, that was painful! The gagging on my poor mutilated stomach. I kept screaming at my boyfriend to get me a pan. I dry heaved until a glob of blood came out and I swore I had broken my tummy. Then I knocked out. My boyfriend later showed me videos he recorded and I looked miserable. I kept putting the pan on my head and whimpering. I woke up briefly a couple times in my own room, screaming and cursing of a burning pain in my stomach. They would sedate me and out like a light. I woke up the next day at 4am & wanted to walk. I took a little walk to my mom’s room and around the wing. Felt ok. That day I had broth, G2, isopure liquid protein, and jello which was uncomfortable to get down. Gas pains and burping was soooo painful! & the leak test was the most horrible part of it all. I cried! The next day I was given a steroid shot to reduce the swelling in my new stomach because I was having trouble getting liquid and jello down. I felt some ease after that. I was discharged that night.   Once I got home thing got bad! The discomfort escalated, I guess because I wasn’t getting my pain meds regularly. The gas bubbles and the burping was intolerable. Water was making me nauseous. I don’t think I even got 200 calories or a whole 10 oz of water in the first couple days at home. I had a moment of despair & started crying regretting the surgery and wanting my stomach back. By this point I was allowed to have yogurt, mashed potatos, creamy blended soups but I was still getting sick.   One week Post op 280 lbs   The nurse said everything I was feeling was normal and it would pass soon. I am having constipation issues which she said is normal too. My stats were good and my incisions were healing fine.     I am now 12days out and Im at 274 lbs but Im on my cycle sooo IDK if im bloated. I’m feeling much better.  Trying my best to get my water and vitamins in. I’m having soft foods now. Ground beef, Crap Meat, Shrimp, cheese, yogurt and cottage cheese for me. I have not had any luck with protein powders. I can not get that down! I have tried Isopure Unflavored, Isopure Banana, Syntrax Fuzzy Navel, Muscle Milk Cookies & Cream , Muscle Milk Mocha Latte, Designer Whey Natural and it Is all disgusting ;(  I’m trying though.  Im back at work and going back to school tonight. I hope im not pushing myself to much too soon. I will update you as I go along.   Any questions, feel free to ask. Any advice, feel free to share.   Love, Natalie   I’d day 31 lbs in 26 Days is not bad at all!
