I Have My Surgery Date!

Dec 20, 2009

I am thrilled to say that I have been given my surgery date after several months of obstacles and insurance requirements!

My date is January 7th, 2010!  I am thrilled, scared, and bracing for the emotional roller coaster that I keep reading about.  I am aware of possible cross additions such as alcohol, craving for the carbs that I love so much and worried that I wont be able to follow the rules.

But for the most part I am looking forward to fitting into my Marilyn Monroe dress, my business suits and becoming more active and social.  My weight has been a huge obstacle for me.  Everything has revolved around it.  For instance, I was invited over the summer to go sailing...I said I had to work (I was worried about what I would wear).  I have been invited to rooftop parties (a big thing in NYC in the summer)..I said I had other plans.  I passed on going out to the Hamptons (I bought a 1/4 share)  I lost the money because I didn't fit in with the rest of the guests.  It's been depressing.

I have always been a big supporter of people who have had problems and have actually done something about it.  I have done something about this problem.  I hope it works!

2 Weeks Prior to 2nd Consult

Aug 27, 2009

It is August 27 '09.  I'm scheduled to see my BS (Dr. Teixeira) at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital on Sept. 8th.  This will be my second consultation.  Since my first consult, I have gone through the usual obstacles: PCP Referral, Neurosurgical Surgeon Referral, Insurance Requirements (phone call), Complete Blood work, Abdominal Ultrasound, Nutritional Consultation, Phych Test (online), and Fitness Food First meeting.  I still have 2 lap band support groups to attend before my second consultation.

The F.F.F. is a meeting that offers nutritional information along with a little exercise at the end.  I have Aetna insurance..instead of waiting 6 months for my surgery, I can get the surgery within 3 months if I go to this meeting
2X's, ( a bargain to me)!

I was weighed in at 219 with a BMI of 35..on the low end. I know. Since my first consultation, I have gained another 3lbs. Why am I getting Weight Loss Surgery?

I broke my back in Sept '08 horseback riding.  Back then I weighed approx. 189 at 5'6".  Due to the accident, I have limitations that prevent me from even swimming at this point.  The increase of weight has caused more pain and more complications with my back.  I can only see it getting worse.  I have always battled with my weight..so many diets..so many disappointments. My limitations have made it worse.

Even though I am on the low end of the scale for W.L.S., my Dr. feels that I will still get approval due to my medical background.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
