Home From Surgery

Jun 13, 2009

Well, I made it through the surgery,  Praise God!!!  And I am one day home from surgery.  I noticed that I have gas and that it feels like I have a little acid reflux.  Is it normal to have the acid reflux?  Should I call the doctor of go back to the ER?  I just want to make sure I don't have any complications.

I drank some chicken broth today and put some miralax in it.  The doctor prescribed me some tylenol with codeine and from my understanding, it can make you constipated so I'm taking the miralax to  be proactive.  The gas is all up my back and what not so I'm looking forward to eventually getting some type of relief from that.

I have to go see my doctor in 7 days so I'm praying for a speedy recovery and no issues.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make sure that I don't have any issues?  Is coughing normal?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Pre-Op Fast--Day One

Jun 05, 2009

On June 11th, I will be having the gastric bypass surgery.  Today is the first day of my fast and so far, so good.  The nutritionist told me she wanted me to drink protein shakes and get in 60 grams of protein.  I'm glad she has me doing this because I purchased some Spiru-Tein protein powder from the Vitamin Shoppe.  I got two flavors, and they actually tasted decent.  And then, I got the aftermath of it.  I was so bloated, crampy, gassy, I mean, everything.  That was totally uncomfortable.  As I read further, the powder was tri-part protein which included rice and pea protein.  In a nutshell, I can't have it, so my boyfriend drinks it for his workouts.  I purchased some Berries Whey from the Whole Foods store and its pretty good too.  It doesn't make me feel bloated, and it has 20 grams of protein per shake.  I also got a greens protein that is 20 grams as well.  I have to try it though.

Overall, I am glad that I'm taking this step.  I have been dealing with obesity my whole life.  I'm in my 30s now and I don't want to deal with it for the latter part of my life.  I look forward to working out again.  I won't have so much weight on my back and knees.  I'm looking forward to bike riding with my daughter.  I look forward to being able to wear heels again.

I'm nervous about knowing what foods to puree so I'm hoping to learn a lot from the community on the site.

until next time......
