Well, I have spent most of my adult life overweight. Ater many deaths in my family I seemed to gain weight and not stop. 2 years ago I started looking into weight loss surgery.
This year I decided to get serious and decided on the lap band. I went to the Mission information session in Asheville, NC. Well I found out I qualified buttt. They are not a center of surgery of excellence. THey charge a 400 administrative fee. THey want you to loose 5% of your body weight. If I could lose 5% of my body weight do you think I would be trying to have surgery. NOT. They charge $80 for 4-5 nutrition/FNP visits that are not paid by most insurances. My insurance would not pay for them. Then there is the psychologist. Try $700 cash up front for the psych exam. Money I didn't have and the insurance doesn't pay anything.
I also did not feel comfortable with the staff.
So, I called Hickory. From the first I really liked the program. So that is where I am having my surgery.
