I started life as a little girl. I was 6 pounds 6 ounces, my mothers 6th baby, and born in the 6 pm hour. But i was born on the 5th of February. I grew up slender, until I hit pre puberty. Then I gained weight. I remember going to High school and being one of the fatest in the entire 9th grade.... I had 240 kids in that class. I had two or three bigger than me. I was nearly 200 pounds. I managed to maintain my weight just under 200 until i ended up on disability in 1992. Then my weight skyrocketed. In 1996 (at the age of 24/25) I was 220. I got pregnant with my first son, Brandon. I lost all the weight gained with that pregnancy. I managed to keep it off until I got pregnant again in 2002. I lost that pregnancy at 12 weeks, and went into a huge depression. I started fighting to stay in the 230's low 240's. I got pregnant again in 2005, with twins. I gained 35 pounds. I lost it right away, but gained it as soon as they came home from the NICU. The littlest one, Matthew, has Cerebral palsy. He was my wake up call.
I started the journey to RNY in the summer of 2002. I dropped out when I got pregnant. Depression, and fear kept me from going thru the program. I wasn't emotionally ready.
When I looked into surgery this time, I went lapband. It was less invasive I thought. I thought it would be a better alternative for me. I came home the same day. I lost some initially, but have struggled with eating ever since.
I'm two years post op of the lapband placement, and heading towards a revision to an RNY. I'm physically ready now. I have talked to my surgeon (Dr. Steven Heneghan), and have his ok to move ahead. I go to orientation on July 7th, 2010. Then have to set up the rest of the appts.
The hope I have right now is to do the surgery right after school starts.... In september.
if you've read this far. Thank you.
