I am looking for a yummy lactose free protein powder that will mix into my coffee without clumping. Anyone have good suggestion?

Did they really do surgery on me at all?

Jul 21, 2010

I can't begin to express how great I feel now 10 days post op.  There is no question that I will return to my desk job next week.  I have been shopping 4 times this week already!  My energy and stamina are wonderful.  I continue to follow my eating plan.  I do notice that I seem to get "hungry" every now and then - must just be "head hunger".  I can swallow all pills whole.  I have my first post op checkup today - I am excited to see what weight I have lost and what my surgeon thinks so far.

6 days post op

Jul 17, 2010

I am just AMAZED at how well this surgery went!  I have to give many KUDOS to Dr. Sloan's bariatric team - they really have it all together.  I don't believe the surgery could have went any better.  Naturally, first few days I had pain, but I hardly used the morphine pump.  I do know they also put a "anti inflammatory" type medicine into my IV.  Once I got home I used my pain meds for a couple days and then didn't seem to need them anymore.  The hardest part has been figuring out "how much to eat".  Sure, I have eaten the amounts they say to eat and then tried to supplement with protein shakes but I think I was eating too much food trying to get all the protein in.  I have slowed down now, and have noticed that my new little pouch is much happier.  I guess I thought you had to drink ALL the protein drink once you made it - DUH!  With all of the thoughts going into this surgery of things that I might experience that other people have mentioned on this board - I haven't had ANY of them.
Nausea - NONE
Vomiting - NONE
Diarrhea - NONE
Hard time sipping water - NONE - I drink my water in the manner I have always done
Foods taste different - NONE - everything tastes the same as it did to me before surgery
Medicine pills too big to swallow - NOT AT ALL - I am able to swallow whole pills and capsules just like I did before surgery

It makes me wonder if the doctor I chose to do my surgery IS THE BEST EVER!  I am so thrilled with my progress so far.

Can't believe how hard this liquid diet can be!

Jun 30, 2010

My first week and I already "slipped" a couple times!  I shouldn't have made spaghetti for the family.  I didn't realize how much of a trigger it is for me.  Must be the pasta carbs that I crave.  Then I finally gave in and sucumed to 1-1/2 cups on two different occassions.  I'm sure I will hear about it when I go into clinic this week to weigh!  But I guess I learned something useful through this experience 1) is is a trigger for me 2) during my liquid diet not to make food for the family that I love 3) to keep it out of sight.

My husband told my secret re WLS surgery

Jun 28, 2010

I have been married to the same man for 33 years.  Trust and love him dearly.  Early on I told him that I wanted to keep my WLS private and not tell anyone but my daughters and couple trusted friends.  My mother-in-law visited us last night.  She is the kind of person who will say in public (not quietly either) "My God, look at how fat she is!"  She and my sister in law are thin and over the years there is alot of conversation on their "thinness".  I get sick of it.  What did my husband do, told her outright that I was having gastric bypass surgery.  I am angry.  I am sad.  Why would my husband do that to me?  Am I wrong for feeling this way?

Started Liquid Diet Today

Jun 25, 2010

Started Optifast liquid diet today - 5 shakes and 1 bar each day per doctor's instructions.  I am 16 days out from surgery.  I like the chocolate and strawberry shakes the best.  I also walked for 30 minutes today at the gym at noon.  There isn't any reason why I can't do that! It wasn't hard.  I hope my attitude toward excercise changes for the good during this process.  Husband and I are eating out tonight, but I will just take my Optifast bar along with me and maybe have some hot tea with it!  I can do this!

Food Log

Jun 23, 2010

I have entered a goal that I will keep track of my food intake and record it daily in my food journal.  So far so good.  Its been about two weeks now and I have entered all foods in daily.  This isn't as hard as I thought it would be!  My NUT reviewed my food log online and really likes the setup.  She said that I was doing great.

Hope to Reschedule Surgery

Jun 18, 2010

I am finding that my workload at my job is increasing currently.  I think I will have to reschedule my surgery from July 6th to July 19th - oh what the heck, at least I won't have to worry about things at work that way when I am in the hospital and recovering.  I am very excited to have the surgery and wish I didn't need to reschedule.  I just hope they have a spot available for me on the 19th!
