Closing in on 4 months...

Jun 26, 2008

So at what point do I stop counting the weeks, and just switch to counting the months?? LOL - like I'm tracking a pregnancy or something. :) Well, at 15 weeks now, I'm anxious to do updated photos and measurements to see how much I've changed, but one more week to go!

This past week has been tough. Mentally, I've been so tired - mostly from working late hours. It's affected my exercise some too. I've been good at getting in my lunchtime workout, but I'm missing my evening jogs.. I ran yesterday, and improved my time by a hair. I'm consistantly doing 2 laps now, or 1.4 miles. It was taking me 11.5 minutes per lap before, or 23 minutes flat. Yesterday I shaved off 30 seconds and came in at 22.5 minutes. It's small, but still progress.

I also learned this week, that I am not at all ready to get off the antacid medication. I was supposed to be done at the 3 month mark, but a couple of days ago, it hit me hard. Even a sip of water gave me major heartburn/acid reflux, whatever you wanna call it. My stomach just felt on fire. It distracted me all day long, and I'm sure that helped drain me from putting forth a good exercise week. I hopped back on 2 days ago, and feeling much better. I know it'll take a little time for the medicine to kick back into full gear, just as it took some time to leave my system. Doctor advised I stay on it until the 6 month mark and then see if I can come off it.

Another impact to my exercise have been my shins and ankles. I'm at the point now where I want to pump up the resistance, but my joints/muscles are not totally ready yet. My ankles were swollen one evening, and the next day, I felt my shins aching... So I backed off the resistance and tried kicking up the intensity instead. It's also lowered my overall heart rate some, so it seems that I'm becoming more fit and adapting to the routine... so it may be time to switch things up a bit. The jogging is always a challenge, but now my heart rate stays in a normal range, instead of spiking into an anaerobic state.

That's about it for now...

14 weeks, another 2.5 lbs down...

Jun 20, 2008

First off - apologies to anyone whose messages I missed over this past month... I swear I didn't see anything new in my inbox when logging in previously... but tonight.. wow.. I had like a dozen messages and photo comments.. Thanks to everyone for your support!! If I missed responding to you, feel free to resend any messages or requests.. Who knows, I may have missed even more.

Not a whole lot on the update front in the past week. Just chugging along, I guess. The vitamin shakes are now boring me to tears.. well, not literally - but they are harder to get down. I just can't handle the sweet tastes like I did before the surgery. I used to LOVE anything sweet... not anymore.. I want vitamin drinks to taste salty, or like lemonade or something... But, at least I'm no longer doubled over in pain like when I took chewables or pill form.

13 weeks - 44 lbs down

Jun 12, 2008

Another week flew right by... Not much to update since the last week. I've been doing the same workout routine, and really hammering on my legs to get those back into some sort of a decent shape. Every jog or elliptical routine, I just keep thinking about going to the beach or wearing shorts again. The other night, I even measured  my leg - upper and mid thigh, knees and calves, to see if I loose inches from there. I noticed from that, my left leg is a tad bigger than my right! LOL! Well, I'm gonna just go by the right leg measurements... I also measured my upper arm, see how that changes too. I can now feel my bones around my bust line and hips, so I think that there's really not a whole lot more to go there... My waist should hopefully continue to widdle down, and that booty of mine... but really, I have a lot to loose off my legs and arms!

Down 3 pounds for the week. Feeling good.. It's nice walking and not feeling my legs rub against each other as much as before. They feel a bit more free, and definately a little fatigued from the excercise increase I've put upon them. Well, onto the next week!

3 Month Check-Up with Nutrionalist

Jun 06, 2008

So, I had that 3 month check-up (rather, more like a check-in) with the Nutrionalist. She approved of my diet and exercise routine - yeay! For advise, she recommended making sure I get 3 set meals a day, along with 2 snacks, instead of the grazing throughout the day. I think I'm naturally falling into this pattern anyhow, but will keep and eye and see how it goes. She also feels that my weight loss has been good as well, and I'm on the right track.

Yeay me - I'm in the clear until my 6-month check-up where I meet with Jossart again.

The BIG 3 Month Mark...

Jun 05, 2008

So here I am, 12 weeks/3 months out from my surgery... This past week, only dropped 1 pound - what a bummer.. For the month, I'm down 11.5 pounds and 41 total since the surgery. So, I'm making progress - just slower than what the doctor thought I might do.

I am keeping up, and increasing my excercise. That's been turning into an obsession almost! I've been able to do a few 60-minute workouts during lunch.. so now, depending on time, I'm putting in 45-60 minutes on the elliptical in the middle of the day, and still trying to get as many evening jogs in around the block as I can. I did hit my first 2-lap non-stop jog a couple of days ago! That was exciting. My pace is a little better too now. I've cut nearly 2 minutes off my time, so 1 lap of 0.7 miles takes me around 11.5 minutes - and, I'm now jogging ahead of my husband and child... not behind them!

For food, still hanging in around the 5-600 calorie range for the day. It feels good - anything more and I would feel like a pig. I was excited to get 4 large shrimp in last night for dinner. 6 weeks ago, I couldn't eat more than 2 without feeling sick. At 4 now, it felt just right - ate slowly and chewed really well. :)

For my 3 month checkup, I'm supposed to have a talk with my nurtitionalist (we're still trying to find a good time to talk). I'll see how she responds to my regiment. So far, we have not seen eye to eye, which is amazing because I'm following Dr. Jossart's advice. In the past, I've found that the nutritionalist is simply following the literature, not my body and its own reactions. I've learned in this process, my body just hates me... I must have absolutely no metabolism at all... Thank goodness for the surgery, because it's helped me loose weight in a month (even at 8 or 11 pounds) that I simply couldn't do over the course of a year no matter how much I killed myself over it.

11 Weeks

May 29, 2008

11 weeks, and 40 pounds down since the surgery!! Wow, I really feel the difference now. I've increased my workouts to include lunch-time elliptical for 45 minutes at minimal. It's been feeling great. Then, on some days, when I get home, I do a jog around the block (0.7 miles). I'm working my way up to 2 laps... Other evenings, I may do some weights and on weekends it's the treadmill and/or weights if no other plans are happening during the evening hours.

I went bowling over the weekend, for less than an hour, and with 2 other people.. I would have thought it's not much in the way of exercise.. but wow did I feel it on the back of my upper thigh of my left leg the next day! It was crazy and unexpected. I guess I haven't really pulled on that muscle much with the other stuff I've been doing.

Supplement-wise, I've found some GNC powder supplement for my multivitamin. That really helps a ton! I was taking so many pills before, and they would make me nauseus each day at some point. With this shake form of multivitamins for women, it's really made that go away. I take that, along with their formulated hair/skin/nails supplement tablet and the meds I'm still on, and it's been perfect.

Speaking of hair - yeah... that whole shedding thing is totally right on. Thank goodness I have a lot of hair... and with summer approaching, I don't mind it thinning just a bit. Hopefully the supplements will get what's come out to grow back in quickly. I also saw my hair dresser over the past weekend, and she assured me not to worry.. I still have plenty on my head!

Foods - I eat just about everything now, but still find sensitivity to veggies and fruits. A select few are OK, like asparagus or tomato, but the rest just don't sit well, and feel heavy in my system.

So all in all, doing well, excited that the scale has been moving again these past few weeks and oh, also started purging my closet finally! Had to donate some big clothes, and still more to come...

One more week, and I'll be posting new photos at my 3 month mark.

2 months past...

May 19, 2008

Yeah, things got busy, and I finally posted my latest 8 week stats... even though I'm a bit over 9 weeks now... better late than never, huh?

Anyhow, I was bummed most of the month because I only lost 8 pounds for the entire month. I know, I'm being bratty as can be, but it's like being on Biggest Looser and dropping just 1-2 pounds a week... those contestants are bummed. Well, I felt a whole lot better after seeing the inches lost. Much better!! We'll see what the next 4 weeks have in store for me.

I upped my excercise routine, and changed it slightly. I found with my heart rate monitor, I can burn more calories during a 45-minutes elliptical workout, opposed to a 45-minute treadmill. I think I just get into it a bit more. So, during lunch hour at work, I hit our gym and do 45 minutes on the elliptical. Then, if the mood strikes me, or on weekends, I'll use the treadmill at home. Also, my little boy is into running, so I let him and his Dad run ahead of me, and I've been doing a super light jog or quick walk behind them. The other day, I actually made it around the full 0.7 mile block, non-stop, with a light jog. It was great - and tiring! It took me about 13.5 minutes total.. so that's my benchmark to now beat!

7 Weeks Down

May 01, 2008

Well, this past week has been so-so with its ups and downs. I finished up my PM Certification. Add this to my MBA, I should be solid on the job front. My 3 year old was sick on and off, and has kept me from a full night's sleep about 4 of the evenings.. I think he's finally better, but I have to admit, I'm mentally tired. *yawn* My husband got a new and exciting position within his company - yippee!

Oh, but my weight? So.. I dropped another 3 pounds this week, but feel bummed. I think I'm bummed, because the past 2 weeks, I've only (yeah, I'm saying only) dropped about 3 pounds each week - or in that ballpark. I'm bummed because my surgeon gave me expectations higher than that. I should be dropping an average of 5 pounds a week.

But, I have been reminding myself - playing my own devil's advocate - that on my own, I was excited to loose 2 pounds in a week. So, I'm loosing more than that, so I need to look at the bright side. I'm also trying to accept that maybe in 2 months, instead of the 40 pounds down, I'll have to be happy with 30, or close to that, down. Again, I'm only feeling this way because I had high expectations that with smart eating, excercise and such, I would loose that 5 pounds per week, no problem. Apparently, my body is way more stubborn than I thought... and at least, I can say I've been dropping some amount week to week.

6 Weeks Down

Apr 24, 2008

So I'm officially at my 6 week mark. I've lost a total of 25 pounds - 2 of it this past week. The stall I had lasted roughly 10 days... The past 3 days in a row, I started loosing again. It was kind of frustrating, however, this week I really feel those 2 pounds down.

I also officially have 100 more pounds to go! No longer 100+ but right at the 100 mark! Wow. Sounds like a lot, but if you do the math, I've lost one-fifth of my weight in 6 weeks. Not bad considering I couldn't pull that off over the course of 12 months! Ha!

Food cravings - I'm totally wanting "new" things. Mostly other meats or fish and salty stuff. I've had prawns (well, I could only eat 2 and I was full - haha!), tuna, salmon, bass, turkey, etc. It's been sort of nice to enjoy little bits of different flavors, and about 1-2 ounces in, I'm done.

I also started back up on my treadmill too. Had to replace the stupid matt, which blew out one of my evenings, but yesterday did 40 minutes without much problems (except I'm still adjusting the new matt - tricky stuff). I think next week I'll try stretching that for longer if I can continue doing well.

My trend for the month is totally down though. That's a bummer. My doctor was expecting another 20 pounds out of me, but 2 weeks in, I'm only down 4.5 for this month. I'll keep chugging along and see what happens.. Maybe the treadmill workout will help some.

Otherwise, I'm feeling good and all is well. No more annoying tummy pains, I can keep my jeans buttoned all day long and I picked up my 3 year old without any problems!

Slow week...

Apr 17, 2008

So this has been my first dismal week... And by that, I mean I only lost 1.5 pounds... Traditionally, that is a good thing, but I'm really striving to not hit any stalls in the first 3 months. 1.5 pounds feels like a stall to me.

So what am I gonna do? Well, now that I'm cleared to workout - I'm kicking that into gear. I'm hoping it's enough to shock my body into moving ahead and dropping those same numbers I saw in the first few weeks, 4-6 pounds a week. Wish me luck!

I'm still counting my calories, protein and water too. I feel good staying under 600, and hope I can sustain that for a while longer even with workouts. I'll try throwing my system off by going a little higher or lower on random days too.

I also realized the discrepancy between my photo starting weight and ticker starting weight.. so I put those 2 in line with each other. I decided to update the ticker to match the photo charts (easier updating the ticker!). There was 1 pound more reported on my chart - starting at 255 instead of 254. Well, the day before surgery, I was 255.. the day of I was 254. So I'll give myself the pound. :)
