Bakersfield Surgical Associates Bariatric Center

Dr. Irani ans his staff are great. So is the Mercy Hospital Bariatric Coordinator, Susan Martinez. I had all my tests & insurance approval in less than 8 weeks. I highly recommend using Mercy Hospital Bariatrics and Dr. Irani over the other practices in Bakersfield.

Well I started inquiring about the surgery in late may. I went to my physician over at Perferred Family Care Physicians and Dr. Kothary sent me to Terri the office manager and she in turn had me call Susan Martinez over at Mercy Hospital. How was I to guess that that one call could change my life. From the first time I talked to Suzzie she made me feel so at ease and comfortable. She kept reminding me that she would see me through this and has done a great job so far. I went to the class at mercy with her and Dr Irani and enjoyed meeting them both. They make a great team. Suzie sent me to the psych, nutritionist, and at last to Dr. Irani. Everyone was excellent in serving me. Once all these appointments were done Suzie sent to the insurance for pre authorization. In about five days she called me at work to tell me the great news that my insurance had approved me! Awh!!! what a shock. She told me to make some more appts. to get some tests done so I did. Dr. Irani has been wonderful and his assistant Bella The same. from the first time I met him I knew he was gonna me a wonderful Doctor and I cant wait to tell you how good surgery went. Well Until I can get back online.... Peace- nick.

Dr. Irani is the most professional and gifted surgeon I know. Dr. Irani went over
the risks of bariatric surgery and answered all my questions. I did not feel rushed
or hurried by Dr. Irani on my Pre-Op visit. When I had post operative depression Dr.
Irani listened to me and cared about my problem. He has a good bedside manner along
with great surgical skills. I would rate Dr. Irani a 10 out of 10.
Mercy Hospital has a wonderful Bariatric Coordinator named Susan Martinez. Susan
provides any needed support and really cares about each of her bariatric patients.
She had the surgery herself so can really relate to all we're going through. Being a
nurse I was really watching to see how my care would be and I have nothing but kudos
for the entire experience. From Susan's visit right before surgery to encourage and
give a bariatric bear to support your post-op deep breathing and coughing, clear on
through to the discharge I would rate Mercy a 10 out of 10. After the surgery Mercy
is helping to keep us sucessful by giving us a support group run by Susan Martinez
and a licensed psychologist that specializes in weight issues. Mercy's Bariatric
Program is excellent!!

I am so excited, more so by the day. My surgery is now two weeks away. I have known my surgeon for many years from working with him in the hospital. I have the utmost respect for him. He is a wonderful surgeon. His staff is also great, they are very helpful andhave a wealth of knowledge. They work along with the bariatric center at the hospital which strongly emphasizes pre and post aftercare. All the risks were explained fully by Dr. Irani. I would rate him a A+!!!

my first impression was great he was very nice and had a lot of helpful information
The office staff was wonderful- Karen was an absolute joy she helped me in ever way possible and wanted to make me comfortable and excited about the new me.
Future patients should know that they are great and are always welcome to help in ever way.
yes- the after care program so far has been very structurized.
the risks were expalined fully and were pointed out very clearly.

Dr. Irani is a very nice person who makes you feel very comfortable and his staff goes over and over the benefits and risks associated with
this surgery.
His office was quite busy when I met him the first time. I waited for almost an hour after my scheduled appt for my physical exam. His office staff did say that they were short 3 people that day and apologized for any inconveniences.
I only saw Dr. Irani for a few minutes, as his staff performed some tests, and his P.A. did the physical exam. His staff was friendly and informative about the surgery. Several brochures were shown to me and all of my questions were answered. My wife was obviously more relaxed about the surgery after we left his office.
Aftercare is a priority in Dr. Irani's practice. All patients must go through an introduction meeting, Pre-op meeting, dietician meetings, psychological exam.
Post-op patients are required to attend meetings after the surgery. San Joaquin Community Hospital is where Dr. Irani performs the surgeries and the hospitals Bariatric Solutions assists patients with any needs or questions.
My primary Physician gave Dr. Irani a huge compliment. She told me that if she had to have surgery, that she would let Dr. Irani operate on her. I think most Physicians know about their colleagues reputations, so this was a big plus for me anyways.
I do not have a surgery date at present, but I am told by other people that Dr. Irani is a
VERY competent surgeon and has a wonderful bedside manner, (something that has gotten rare these days)? So he has both!
Just my thoughts, Mark H.

My doctor is great. I highly recommend him.

Very concerned, caring, no change in that impression. The office staff is very nice and seem to care about each individual. Sometimes the wait in office is a bit long, but since I work for a doctor, I know how that goes:) There is nothing to dislike about Dr. Irani, although I saw his associate for my first post op visit, rather than him. Know that he cares about the PERSON, not just the patient. Very emphatic about all aspects of aftercare. Insists you attend at least 8 group sessions. All risks of surgery were adressed verbally and in writing. On a scale from 1 to 10, Dr. Irani is a 15! He is a superbly skilled surgeon with wonderful hands, and has a GREAT bedside manner. These are my own personal statements about my experience with Dr. Irani and I am not making any statements about what others may have experienced.
