Northern Colorado Surgical Associates Bariatric Center

I first met Dr. Quaid on December 2, 2003. (There's a long waiting list.) He was quiet, but sincere. I've researched WLS for 13 years and am also a registered nurse so, of course, I felt like I already knew it all and was so excited I just wanted to get on with scheduling a surgery date. Never the less, he took his time in explaining things and laid out the risks and benefits for me. Before the M.D. consult, I met with Becky, his office nurse, for the basic vital sign check and then attended an hour long educational session with a video about the procedure. They stress follow up care and sponsor a once a month support group held in Ft. Collins. I am impressed with their care, compassion and concern so far. I work with women who have had this procedure through Northern Colorado Surgical Associates and one in particular who had Dr. Quaid perform her Lap RNY. She has nothing but wonderful things to say about him. I feel confident. I'll update again once I'm "on the other side" of WLS.

September 30, 2004. I'm almost 5 months post-op and updating as promised. I'm just as impressed and happy with Dr. Quaid and his office as I was pre-op. The office staff is professional and friendly and I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes. Dr. Quaid never makes me feel rushed, is thorough, answers all questions and seems to be genuinely concerned about my WLS experience. I've not had any complications related to my surgery and feel his surgical competence and his bedside manner are "A+" excellent.

I had the opportunity to see and hear from the 3 different surgeons in this practice prior to meeting with Dr. Pettine. I had originally had a consultation with another surgeon but when Dr. Pettine started speaking to the support group I was attending I was immediately impressed with his personality and sense of humor. Being a rather funny gal myself I knew that I would be more at ease with someone who could joke and I didnt get that feeling with the other 2 doctors, so I changed my appointment. My consultation was great.....he cracked me up while being serious about what could happen, etc. I am very confident with the decision I made and know that he will get me through this safe and sound.

Dr. Quaid was very pleasent and honest. He is very complete with all of your questions and examination.
I still feel the same way
The office staff is wonderful. They never treat you like a stranger. They have my full interest whenever, I have an appointment.
Dr. Quaid speaks very softly.
He is one of the most kindest doctors I have ever experienced (except for my family doctor).
Very much. The office requires that you either live or get a hotel room or stay at a friends or family member within 2 hours of the office. This way if you have any problems after surgery you are very close to the doctor or hospital. We are also required to go in for a monthly check after our 2 week check and then on a monthly to six weeks basis after that. This way the doctors are able to make sure you are eating properly and we also have a once a month support group on the last Monday of each month.
Dr. Quiad and his staff are very straight forward when it comes to the risks. They do let you know that there is a chance of dying during surgery. Especially if the patience does not tell the whole truth about their medical history.
Both bedside and surgical are considered equal. When I was in the hospital Dr. Quaid was very polite and explained things that could happen after surgery. The hospital staff was just as wonderful. The patiences that have a gastric bypass are trained to make you feel as comfortable as possible. The nurses tended to my every need. Even when it was time to walk (which is a couple hours after surgery) they were very pleasent. I could have stay longer just for the care I was receiving.

I went to a seminar offered by Dr. Snyder and his group. I felt very comfortable with the information presented and felt that I would like to use him as my surgeon. He covered the surgery, complications, aftercare and answered many questions from the audience. He comes highly recommended. I had heard that he responds quickly to any questions sent to him by Email. I had a question and sure enough, he responded in a day or two. His office staff will also reply promptly. I was disappointed when I called to make my first appointment. My appointment is in June, 6 months away. I hope that the appointment may be moved up if there are any cancellations. I have also talked with someone who used Dr. Snyder and they really had nice things to say about him. I look forward to meeting with him, hopefully before June. He has also arranged for a support group every other Thursday and I will attend my first one on Jan 23. July 21,2004 Well, it has been a while since I added anything to this. I just have to say what a great doctor Dr Snyder is! I am going to try for approval and have set up an appointment on August 4th. Since my insurance paid for another employees lap band procedure, I am just going to see what happens to me. Dr Snyder is so encouraging and really cares about the after care of his patients. He is arranging for support groups all over the city and all different days. I feel the support group is one of the most important part of the success of this surgery. So, I will see what happens next.
August 2004 Well, how things change. I will be looking for a new surgeon. Since Dr. Snyder has moved to Rose Medical Center, he will no longer do WLS on someone who refuses to accept blood, if needed. Rose Medical Center does not want the risk on an elective surgery. I would argue that line of thinking, but I won't. I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses and will not use blood. I went to my consultation and was so shocked when he told me he could not do my surgery. I have been planning on using him for about 1 1/2 years. I have had my insurance as a brick wall, until now. Dr. Snyder said he could recommend another doctor, so I will look into that. That is the way somethings go. Dr. Snyder called Dr. Pettine and they called me. I have just sent all my paper work and will be waiting for an appointment. I read several reviews on him and he seems to have a great medical reputation. I am excited to meet him and get things moving. Two years is way too long!!!

Let me say that my first impression of Dr. Quaid was a very positive one, and it hasn't changed one bit since my surgery. His office staff are all remarkable. I am always treated very well during my visits. I have to say there is nothing I don't like about Dr. Quaid or his office staff. He is an excellent physician who emphasizes aftercare at every visit. I was given a book that details a structured diet and includes much more information to answer most any question that might arise after surgery. I felt Dr. Quaid and his team addressed all risks of surgery thoroughly, and I was comfortable with proceeding. Dr. Quaid exhibits excellent surgical competence and his friendly bedside manner is a plus. I will definitely refer anyone wishing to have this surgery to Dr. Quaid. I have to finish by saying doctors save peoples' lives, but Dr. Quaid and other doctors that perform the gastric bypass go one step further. They not only save lives, but they give a person the chance at a better life...a life worth living...a healthy life!

I met him before my consultation at a support group. He made me feel comfortable right away and I liked his way of putting others at ease while giving the facts. My impression of him got better because he remembered me two weeks later, as did the nurse. At this time I can not honestly think of anything that I did not like about Dr. Pettine or the staff. They are all very knowledgable and help you gain the information needed to come to your own decision. I think I had already made the decision and just needed to clarify things. So far, the ratings for the Northern Colorado Surgical Association is TOP NOTCH!

First impression was he was very professional. As the process went on I learned that he was very friendly as well and truely concerned about my health and future. His office staff is very helpful, even on the phone. I can't think of a thing I didn't like about him. As far as post op I'm only 10 days out so I can't really speak on post op visits, but otherwise I would recommend him without question. He informed me before surgery that mine would be a difficult one because of prior injuries and scar tissue problems but didn't go out of his way to scare me. Overall I would give him a 9 out of 10. Post op visits are yet to come but I don't forsee it getting any worse. He's top notch, from his skills as a surgeon to his freindly demeanor. Thanks Dr. Dickinson!

I loved my surgeon's care. He was very personal, friendly, and open. I felt like I was talking to a friend when I came in for my follow up care and when I had concerns that turned out to be nothing, he still treated them as if they were important to him. He made me feel very comfortable in coming to him for help. His nurse, Becky, was a huge help as well and very proficient at returning my calls and helping me after surgery. I've recently moved to Wisconsin and he still insists on following my care through email updates etc. I've gone back to Colorado to see him I enjoy him so much. Since my wls he has performed the removal of my gall bladder and an emergency appendix removal after it ruptured. I wish I could still see him on a regular basis!! I would recommend him to anyone, even my closest family. My family has all met him and all like him very much.

Dr.Quaid is all business and very professional.
He also has cold hands! He warms up to you eventually
and I have felt very fortunate in having him and also
have a lot of confidence in him. He is quiet but
very intelligent and he convinced me that eating slowly and
eating small bites was my keys to success. So far it is working.
His office is extremely professional and they addressed all my concerns
thoroughly. Overall - I give him and his office very high marks.
On my last post-op visit he was all smiles at my progress
and that really made me feel good!
Updated Spring 2004 - I had my two year appt with Dr. Quaid and still enjoy him and am happy that he was my surgeon. Anybody who has him will be pleased, in my opinion.
