Plymouth General Surgery Bariatric Center

My doctor is excellent and so is his assistant Mandy. I already have all my test in motion. I am very excited. If anyone live in East stroudsburg, Pa please use James Koren because he is the best. he showed me all the risk and the best thing that can happen.

I met with Dr. Koren on my first office visit..My two friends and my 13 yr old daughter went with me to ask a multitude of questions..He was very nice and help put their minds at ease about the surgery and everything that was involved..I would have had to go to the one in Reading around 5 times before I even met with the surgeon..Dr. Koren gave me a list of all the things I had to have done to help get the surgery approved..Between him and Mandy Nice the bariatric coordinator they are the best..I really lucked out having such a great team as them..I want to tell everyone out there that he is a godsend and has turned my life around..I had my initial consutation on Nov. 5,2003 and on Dec.4,2003 I had the surgery..I was sick on that sat and Dr. Koren was in and out all day with me and he even wheeled me for xrays..How many surgeons do you know who would do that..When he had to change an appointment he would call himself..He also called my family physician after the surgery to let him know I was doing fine..I have referred him to everyone that I come in contact with..He is the greatest and I am so glad that another person from this site told me about him..I would still be on the waiting list with Reading and it is well over a year..I won't lie to anyone I was in alot of pain on that Sat..and when the staff tells you to get up and move its to your advantage to do it..It was all gas from the surgery and I really felt bad..Very few people get this after taste in their mouth..I got it and it made me nausous for the first month or so to the point that I had to force myself to eat. The taste is gone and I do not regret having the surgery done at all..I cried the first time I went to the movie theater and could fit in the chairs comfortably..Plus,the weight coming off has helped with the arthritis in my knees..I am the only one I have talked to post op that has had the taste so far..But it was all worth it if it lessons my chances of being in a wheel chair permanently..

Dr. Koren is a very compansionate and caring physcian. The program he has established at Easton Hospital is excellant and provides support before during and after surgery. Bariatric Coordinater, Mandy Nyce is also a great asset to the program and she and Dr. Koren make a great team.

Dr. Koren was recommended to me by another surgeon because Dr. Koren is experienced in the open Roux-NY procedure. He did a great job explaining the procedure with a video presentation in his office. It is a one on one meeting which is helpful especially if you have a lot of questions. His office staff are courteous and helpful with all of the needs I had. The office is very well rounded and they ensure you have an appropriate understanding of ALL that is required for this procedure. Overall I would say Dr. Koren is a 10!!! But don't forget Mandy Nyce our favorite bariatric coordinator! She is truly a special person. Extremely knowledgable, understanding, reliable and very much a great support person for all patients.

Have only had initial vist with him but I was very impressed with him. He was polite, friendly and very understanding and supportive as was his staff. There is a support group with regularly scheduled meetings twice a month. I would rate him an 11 out of 10.

I met with Dr. Koren today for the first time 11/5/03 and I found him kind and compassionate while stating and explaining all the aspects of surgery. He addressed all the risks, the aftercare and his staff was excellent. I would rate him a 10. He does not ignore any aspect of this procedure before, after or during with his staff and him personally guiding you all the way. I feel so confident in him I cannot wait for the date to be set. UPDATE****** POST- OP
I am now post-op 5 days, feeling pretty good considering that this is major surgery and came home after 2 days to 2 whining children, 1 is sick and the other whines all the time. My husband had been at work constantly and have had no help, except for my sick 9 year old. Dr. Koren was great throughout the entire process, he was there with me for everything, and his nurse Mandy actually sat with me, called and checked on everything. They addressed all the risks of surgery, all the life changes that will take place. He emphasizes after care and has monthly meetings een when you are years post-op. I would rate him a 10, can't get any better, I truly have nothing negative to say, Either he or Mandy were with me every step of the way, letting me know at night they are a phone call away if I need them. Dr. Koren has great surgical competence and bedside manner. This is a winning bariatric team, Anyone who needs this surgery and needs a great doctor shouldn't look any farther than here. He is worth traveling to.

First impression? Young and good looking!
He is very compassionate and "human", unlike some doctors who rush through your first consultation. He explained everything in detail and answered all questions/concerns I had.
His office staff is very pleasant and friendly.
Dr. Koren and Mandy offer monthly support group meetings, which they both emphasize for before and after surgery. Its a great place to meet others with the same needs and concerns as you. Since I am post-op now, I enjoy being able to talk with other members and help answer any questions, from my personal experience.
I would recommend Dr. Koren, as well as Easton Hospital, to any person considering Gastric Bypass Surgey.
Surgical competence is definitely a plus, Dr. Koren has done over 300 surgeries. Bedside manner is a must, since you feel so vulnerable. Both Dr. Koren and the medical students assigned to my case were very helpful and understanding.
