Dr. J P Koren - No need to search further - he was the one for me! After much research into other surgeons, I chose Dr. Koren. Once I finally met with him and had the chance to talk and discuss all questions and concerns, I had no reservations whatsoever as to his expertise and professionalism. My husband was greatly impressed with Dr. Koren and his staff as well. Even now that I am post-op, my husband can't say enough how impressed and thankful he is to Dr. Koren and Mandy for all the time and concern they took in every step of the way before, during and after surgery. Mandy came out to my husband in the waiting room several times throughout the surgery, just to let him know how I was doing and the progression of the operation. This was so comforting and reassuring to my husband and meant more then words can say. Dr. Koren treats you "individually"...when it is your office visit, etc. it is truely your time, and he doesn't rush you whatsoever. Dr. Koren is truely a credit to his profession. What a nice human being to boot! Thanks Dr. Koren for all that you are and for giving ME the chance for a new life!

He is a very knowledgable, very compassionate, and very kind man. Everything about him exudes confidence and understanding. My impression grows stronger with each visit. His office staff reflects his demeanor. One can tell that the staff respects him completel. I can't think of anything that I did not like, although the difficulties I am now experiencing were not discussed prior to surgery. In all fairness, my difficulties are very unusual. More common difficulties were addressed prior to surgery. Future patients should be prepared to be impressed! Aftercare is of huge importance. I have had weekly appointments and there is a support group at the hospital. The nurse/coordinator has had the surgery herself so she knows what she is dealing with on a personal level. He was honest about the risks of surgery, outlining all aspects that apply to surgery in general and this surgery in paricular. I would rate Dr. Koren and his staff with an A++. Surgical competence vs bedside manner: I don't think you can have one without the other.

I had my first meeting with Dr. Koren yesterday. My husband, Bill, came with me, at my request. First impressions: considerate, respectful of my concerns, warm, caring, thorough, informative, unrushed, competent. I felt at ease and certain that I'd selected the right surgeon for me.

His staff was courteous, professional, and helpful. I've also met Mandy Nyce, the Bariatric Surgery Coordinator from Easton Hospital. What an incredible woman! Warm, funny, empathetic, helpful, professional.

Dr. Koren did a PowerPoint presentation, thoroughly covering all aspects of WLS, including: risks, benefits, aftercare, etc. He stressed the importance of aftercare and the patient's committment to following what's needed to lose weight, stay healthy and keep the weight off. He has a complete aftercare follow-up program, including support group meetings.

I personally need not only surgical comptetence AND good bedside manner, but also a sense of humor! Dr. Koren has all of these.

I have only one negative thing to say ...I hated the music that was playing in his office. ...possibly heavy metal. I would have preferred 'soothing'!!

Dr. Koren is the best! He is very nice, puts you at ease and answers all of your questions. I have been very impressed by the care and concern he has shown my DH since his surgery! Mandy his assistant is a real gem! Together their program meets every expectation of the surgery. I don't think anyone could have surgery by this team and not feel 100% informed.

Dr. Koren is a professional. That is my opinion, while still in the pre-operative stage. He is knowledgeable, a great communicator, as well as a facilitator for getting information while also getting things accomplished. His team is great too! Mandy Nyce, RN is thinking ahead for me while also being repsonsive to my needs. The team is a refection of the leader, Dr. Koren. I'll present more information post-surgery (August 19, 2004).

It is now August 23, 2004. Dr. Koren and Mandy Nyce are a great team. Their attention to every detail is outstanding. Drr. Koren telephoned me at home on Sunday to follow trough and make sure that all was good. What a great eperience.

DR. JAMES KOREN IS A VERY SENATIVE AND CARING PERSON. HE IS VERY INTERESTED IN THE PERSON NOT THE MONEY INVOLVED IN THE SURGERY. HE MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE A REAL PERSON NOT JUST SOMEONE THAT THE INSURANCE COMPANY WILL BE PAYING HIM TO DO SURGERY ON.
HE TRUELY CARES FOR YOUR OUTLOOK ON LIFE ALONG WITH YOUR ABILITY TO BECOME A HEALTHIER PERSON BECAUSE OF THIS SURGERY.
HIS STAFF WITHOUT A QUESTION ARE THE MOST CURTIOUS AND HELPFUL PERSONS YOUR WOULD EVERY LIKE TO MEET. HIS COORDINATON MANDY IS AN OUTSTANDING PERSON. HER CARING AND CONCERN ARE BEYOND QUESTION. SHE IS MORE LIKE A SISTER TO EACH AND EVERY PERSON THAN A SURGICAL COORDINATOR. SHE REMEMBER EVERY PERSON AS AN INDIVIDUAL. SHE IS ONE OF A KIND WHERE I AM CONCERNED. DR. KOREN AND MANDY CAN NOT BE MATCHED TO ANYONE IN MY OPENION. I THANK GOD FOR FINDING SUCH CAREING PEOPLE.

Dr. Koren was highly recommended by my PCP. Having three people close to me going through the surgery, I was able to witness first hand how good it really was. Neither I, or those three people. however, had heard anything about the doctor before. I didn't let that stop me though.

I called and scheaduled a consultation. Luckily, it was scheaduled for a week and a half later. I thought it would have taken me months, but since Dr. Koren is newer to the area, I found him just in time for him not to be overwhealmed with patients just yet.

When I met him, he was very informative. He explaind to me the facts about being morbidly obese, and we went over other alternatives that perhaps didn't have to be surgery. However, after being obese for a little over 16 years, you kinda try a lot to loose the weight.

His bariatric consultant, Mandy Nyce, is excellent. She used to work with two area surgeons for 10 years. She had the surgery preformed by that doctor, and has since become the bariatric consultant at Easton Hospital.

She only has great things to say on Dr. Koren's technique and traning.

They are very caring and are there to answer any questions and/or address any concerns you may have.

The after care is deffinately emphasized. They gave me a throurough diet to follow. Sure, it's up to me if I want to follow, but if I want to optimize my weight loss, it would be recommended to follow it.

The risks were specifically adressed. There are risks or hernias, infections, malnutrition, even death that can be caused by blood clots forming in your legs that go up to your lungs and cause Pulminary Embolism (can you tell they gave me the info?)...

On the morning of my surgery, Mandy was there at my side bright and early. I got through all of my jokes and laughing because I knew I wouldn't be able to laugh too hard after surgery. She was even with me during the surgery. Sure, I didn't remember 'cause I was knocked out. I didn't wake up until I was in the recovery area. It was a weird feeling knowing that I just got operated on, and yet didn't know what had just happened.

When I got to my room, Mandy was there almost the entire time. She kept checking on me. Dr. Koren also came by to see how I was doing from time to time. The nurses at the hospital were also helpful.

I think in relation to the Doctor? He has both the surgical competence, and after the surgery, you can say he was good bedside manner in terms that he is there a lot.

The weekend after surgery, he even called me at my home to see how I was doing.

All in all, I had a good surgery, and I'm on my way to a good recovery.
