Dr. Martin entered the room with a smile and warm greeting. She sat down at the table with my sister, my neice and myself (all three considering this surgery.)

Dr. Martin took her time. She spent approximately one and one-helf hours with us explaining the procedure, what to expect in short term and long term goals. Interviewed each of us and allowed for questions and answers. She was caring, compassionate, warm, no nonsense.

She used diagrams to explain the procedure and the hospital course and what to expect. Recommended the classes and to call for further questions.

She quoted the risks of the surgery in very realistic terms 1 in 200 die - she looked us straight in the face and asked if we were willing to die for this procedure? There is realism to ponder.

She has been with Commonwealth Surgeons since 1999. She has most of her experience with laproscopes. My surgery will be done laproscopically.

Dr. Martin's assistant, Hilarie Surratt is GREAT! She sets up all the appointments, coordinates your schedule and answers any questions you may have immediately. She is very knowledgeable with the insurances also.

The front desk receptionists are friendly and helpful. While sitting in the office Gina one of the receptionists noticed I was pretty tension (my first visit) she told me to lighten up! Everyting would be find. She did everything she could to make us feel comfortable and welcomed.

My first impression of Dr. Martin was what I feel should be expected when first meeting someone who is going to become your "life partner" as far as medical issues are concerned. It felt like an interview for a new life. Her office staff at this point has been very proffessional and helpful. There is nothing at this point that I do not like about Dr. Martin. She is genuine and sincere. She lays the truth on the line and makes you understand in simple terms what it is you are in for. Aftercare? What could be more important? The risks of surgery were addressed and will continue to be addressed. She is very serious regarding the risks and outcomes etc. At this point I would say I have had a positive experience with Dr. Martin.

Dr. Martin is the best doctor anyone could ask for. She has been available to answer my questions and provide me with the best information and advice there is. Recently I had become ill and needed to be seen. She had an am surgery and an afternoon surgery w/ a follow up of another patient in the process. But she fit me in and took the time to stay at the hospital during my cat scan just to let me know everything is fine. But the thing is she had been trying to go home! What a doctor! She cares about her patients and how they are doing. Thanks to her I am doing much better now and will continue to do better. She has the best bedside manner of any doctor I have had for any other health issue.

I had my first meeting with Dr. Martin on July 16th. I found her to be very caring and understanding. She made me feel comfortable. The office staff has been wonderful also. I talked to Dr. Martin for an hour or so, but then there are always questions that will come to you after you leave, and her staff has been wonderful in answering all of them!
Hopefully, I will have a date for the surgery soon!

I met with Dr. Martin today and she was great! She answered all my questions and even played with my 2 & 3 year old while explaining.(that was a plus in my book!!!)No really she did everything a Dr. is expected of and then some, and so far I would recommend her! She told me she was real strict with her plan and would deal with me at every level of the surgery process.

After surgery she was awesome! She came in and saw me every day I was there asked me if I needed anything and took care of everything!! Very cool Dr!!

My first impression of Dr. Martin was definitely a positive one. She is soft spoken and has eyes that look directly into your with a true caring and deep sympathy for what you're going through. She takes time to explain the surgery and also to make sure you aren't having this surgery for the wrong reasons. Her office staff is incredibly friendly. They have been very quick to return phone calls and do everything in their power to better the experience of the different processes you must go through in order to have gastric bypass surgery. Since, I haven't had my surgery yet, I don't know a lot about their aftercare. I know they have a wonderful nurse practitioner who often does the follow up visits. Overall, I rate Dr. Martin very highly because of her ability to empathize with her patients as well as her surgical skill and great bedside manner! The only thing that I would mention about my initial consult with Dr. Martin is that she only spent maybe a total of five minutes with me. I didn't really need more time than that, but it would have been nice to get to have some extra time to think of questions. Since my first visit, I have come up with so many, but at my physical, I will have more than enough of an oppertunity to ask anything I like. And I know that if I had known what questions to ask on the day of my first consult, she would have been more than happy to spend the extra time informing me.
