Dr Madan was a very knowledgable MD he had a good bedside manor and was very comforting when I first developed complications,however----his office staff was not very cooperative and when I got pnuemonia 3 1/2 hours away they did not get him the message and it was very scairy,my husband called the office 3 days in a row to get us some help and never got a call back, needless to say I transferred to local physcian here in Ky. to do my follow up labs and have been with him now for over a year, although he did not do the actual surgery he has taken far better care of me,his name is Alex Argotte.

I met with Doctor Hiler first (9/24/02) and was told that Dr Madan would be doing the surgery. I really liked Dr Hiler. He had an excellent bedside manner who seems to be a very caring person and doctor. Looking forward to meeting with Dr Madan. I was given a list of preoperative tests that must be completed before I can be scheduled with another appointment and then hopefully a surgery date. The sleep test is my last test to be done. Nashville is backed up to the last week of January! Am hoping I can get the sleep test done in Memphis a whole lot sooner than January.
12/5/2002 I met with Dr. Madan and was very impressed with him as a person and as a prominent surgeon. He is re-vamping the weight loss program at UTMG; which is very positive! The information packets have been updated and include lots of information regarding laproscopic surgery. He is currently playing 'catch up' since his move to Memphis in June/July timeframe. He has ordered all new equipment for Laproscopic surgery and surgeries have been basically on 'hold' until his first surgery in Memphis on Dec 3rd. (Originally at my appointment in September with Dr Hiler, I was told to anticipate for surgery Dec/Jan.) However, Dr Madan told me at my appointment on Dec 5th, realistically we are looking at MAY 2003 for surgery! I was devastated by that news and it took several days to regain my enthusiasm for this surgery, once again. Dr Madan is taking care of the 250 + patients that were in front of me. Needless to say, my sleep test for January is still a
'GO'. Dr Madan stated that my file would not be submitted to my insurance company until February. No use sending it in too early since he is working on his backlog first and insurance authorizations have expiration dates attached to them. Dr Madan is very thorough and wants to know what makes you 'tick' before he makes the first incision. I feel very confident to have Dr Madan as my surgeon and am looking forward to my next step on the journey.

5/3/2004 Had my 1 year anniversary post-op. Dr Madan is a very supportive and caring person. He was definitely worth the wait and the drive from Nashville to Memphis! He has a great sense of humor in a very professional way. I had concerns about a 'lump' I felt in the center of my chest. Dr Madan just grinned and stated that it was a 'bone'! I hadn't felt a bone through my skin in years!

My first impression of Dr. Madan was and still is great. He is a very caring man and is truely sincere in his care of obese individuals. His office staff for the most part are great people. They make you feel important and special and have plenty of hugs to go around. Dr. Madan lets you know from the jump that this surgery is not a cure it is a tool and after care is as important as the surgery itself. He explained in length the ins and outs of the surgery and the risks and the benefits. In my opinion he is an awesome surgeon and I would refer him to anyone that asked me for a surgeon.

I was impresses with Dr. Madan, he answered all my questions and was very helpful. The office staff is wonderful, all of them are sweet and considerate. You do have a wait in the office usually so plan to take a book or something to do.

Dr. Madan is great. Answered all my questions. (I had many) HE has a great bedside manner, and has a fantastic reputation as a surgeon. Be prepared to wait a long time when you have an appointment with him. Other than that, A++ service!!!!

Ok, Dr. Madan and Dr. Hiler are both very nice guys. I have been pleased with them both. Just a little wait but not much, especially today 7/31/02. The office staff are very professional, but very easy to talk to, joke with, and all around just good people. Dr. Madan goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and wants to know when you have problems.

What was your first impression of him/her?
Ans: The first visit was quick, but I had my questions prepared in advance, which I recommend, else you'll forget to ask something. How did your impression change over time? Ans: My impression grew from satisfied to very excited. How would you describe his/her office staff? Ans: Some of the very best I've encountered. Primarily, I worked with Kim T. and she sets the new standard! Tish is great also. What did you like least about him/her? Ans: Can't think of a thing to say "least" about Dr. Madan You will need a book to read for appts. as there's normally a wait, something I set my mind to "deal with" early on, as he's a specialist and a teacher at UT and he's called out to do many things and can't always control his arrival (from my observation) How much does he/she emphasize aftercare? Ans: Very much so, but he treats you as an adult, providing you with a nice reference binder and expects you'll read it and follow through asking questions along the way. I especially like his focus on nutrition and the involvement of a nutritionist. Does he/she have a structured aftercare program? Ans: Yes, both follow-up visits and additional venues for involvement. How did he/she address the risks of surgery? Ans: Dr. Madan was very clear in the risks, as were his office staff. He's also very good at explaining the various procedures and addressing your lifelong options. How would you rate him/her overall? Ans: Madan sets a new standard for me. During my hospital stay he followed through every inch of the way, keeping my family informed as well as me for surgery/tests/concerns, etc... as they took place. As of this writing I'm 9 days post-op and am quite pleased. Which is better, surgical competence, bedside
manner, or both great? Ans: Surgical competence is certainly #1, as your life is in the surgeon's hand. You're not paying for personality, but professional training. With Madan and his staff, you're just getting "icing" on the cake to go along as he, his staff and the hospital staff all have both. ONE FINAL NOTE: In many of the postings I failed to see the reference to the hospital staff and must say that I've never seen or received better care in a facility than The Med. Dr. Madan has established a special division for his patients with specially trained nurses who not only take care of you physically, but also go an extra mile to talk with you, build your confidence (in that first walk after surgery - youch!) and make you want to do well, all because of their positive motivation and loving care I made it - it's a spiritual event that has made a lasting impression on me personally!
