My first impression of Dr. Madan was better than I had hoped for. He was caring, insightful and answered each of my questions with thoughtful answers even though he was busy and had other patients waiting to be seen. His staff was kind and efficient and handled my appointments and paperwork with great care and professionalism.

This young surgeon seems very informed. He said he has performed over 100 lap RNY's. I think he is an instructor in the UT Medical School.

Office staff is in transition at present. I think a couple key people have left and they are regrouping.

I believe Dr. Madan is the only lap-RNY surgeon in the Memphis area and extremely busy.

He is very easy to contact thru email. It's easier to contact him thru email than to contact some of his staff members.

His staff got my RNY approved on the first submission with BC.

1. Very thorough and personable.

2. I like him moreso now. He is very detailed in his explainations and no matter what, he takes the time to hear you.
3. Well, sometimes I thought his staff was kind of mean, but it was probably because they were so busy.
4. They were short and snappy. Not all of them and not all of the time.
5. For Dr. Madan, they should know that he will take the time you need to clearly understand what you want to know.
6. Not alot...mainly because we were trying to deal with all the preliminaries first.
7. Not sure, didn't make it that far.
8. I was given a lot of information to study and read. Dr. Madan made it clear that I could ask him anything. He even gave me email address and that has been most helpful to me.
9. 10++++++++
10. I haven't gotten the surgery yet, but I know he's very competent. His bedside manner is off the hook. He has far been the best doctor I have known, except my gynecologist who is the son of the doctor who delivered me into the world. So, I would say Dr. Madan ranks very, very high.

I was very confident with my first impression of Dr.Madan. He NEVER rushed me about questions, or talked down to me. He didn't seem to think any question was not important. My impression has even grown better since he called on a weekend night to let me know when my surgery date had been scheduled. The office staff are nice enough, I just sense they may need additional nurses/assistants. So far I actually can not say anything negative about my doctor. (really)! He looks young, but yow feel better when you talk with him.:) He talked at length about aftercare, but assured me he would go over more as we get closer to the date. I am not sure as to what extent of which you are asking about aftercare, I am aware of a support group that meets once a month for sure, but i have not ask about that yet. Dr.Madan made sure I knew of the ultimate risk of any surgery, also made clear of infections etc.... I have to say he is clearly one of the nicest doctors i have met. I have read he has great competence in what he does, but to my disapointment, I have not experienced his actual "bedside" manner. Hopefully I will in a matter of weeks!!

Dr. Madan is a very nice and caring doctor. Very understanding of his patients. Answered all my questions. Staff is a different story but for most part I have not called to bug or nag.

I liked Dr. Madan the first time I met him. He told me why he had an interest in bariatric surgery and seemed to be very sincere. He is young and is very knowledgable about all the in's and out's of gastric bypass surgery. He loves what he does. When I have questions for him, I email him and I always had a reply with-in a couple days. If his staff is struggling with getting an approval with insurance, he will call the insurance company himself. He works with you and what's going on in your life. I feel he has been very honest with me about the good and bad of surgery.

I had my first consultation with Dr. Lloyd Hiler on March 27th, 2002. He was everything I had hoped for, very approachable, ready to make a move. With everyone else envolved with this process, it is nice to see someone with the same urgency as I have. The staff was friendly enough. I traveled for 3 hrs. to get to his office (Nashville to Memphis). I had to fast for a blood test, so I arrived 1hr. early to have blood drawn in order to eat something for lunch. I really believe in first come first served(except for emergencies, of course) The office was empty and they assured me that I was next to be seen as soon as they started taking patients back. The office soon filled with others. I overheard a patient say she had thought that her appt was for 1:00 and the receptionist said,"No, it says three right here." They took her before me along with about 2 others. My appt was at 1:00 and by the time my 15-20 minutes with Dr. Hiler was over, it was pushing 5:00 and I still had a 3hr drive back to Nashville with rush hour traffic and now it was time for Dinner. I didn't get home until 9:30. My husband and I were very irritated.

Dr. Hiler said that since I had my predetermination test (sleep study, diabetes diagnosis, psyc exam, colonoscopy) prior to this visit, he say no reason why we couldn't have this surgery as soon as May. He said to work on the girl who schedules. The girl who works in reception told me that It could be as long as six months to schedule this surgery. She also advised me against phoning my insurance company. She said that they may deny me if I was pushy. I have a feeling she was hinting not to push her as well.

Well, I have a scheduled surgery date, July 18th.**** My, how the worm has turned! Fortunate for me, my date was postponed. My new surgeon Dr. Madan said that Dr. Hiler no longer would preform gastric bypass surgery. Nevertheless, I am greatful that Dr. Madan is preforming my surgery laproscopicly. I understand he has been highly sought after and that he is also a lap kidney transplant surgeon, also. I really like him, but, I liked all the other surgeons I have met also. It is hard to explain, I don't feel as anxious and I feel a strange sort of contentment. With a shorter hospital stay and recovery time, it is laproscopic is certainly more desireable than an open proceedure. I don't know of anyone who has been more impatient than me. I have decided to slow down a little bit and be thankful everyone else has been looking out for my best interest!

10-13-02 OK it will be 3 wks tomorrow since I called Dr Madan's office for an appt. The appt girl said they would call me back in about 2 wks with an appt. If I have to wait this long just to get the appt. who knows when it will be sched. for? I did get 2 letters and 2 emails. The letters were generic but the emails were signed with his name. so maybe they came from him and not the nurse. Well I'll update on this again as soon as I know something.
