First impression, He is old.
He may be up in age, but he is sharp.
Very friendly, always answer all my questions
Weird sense of humor.
He has a dry sense of humor, but he is a wonderful doctor.
Till he's blue in the face.
Yes
Very seriously, he wanted to make sure I made the right decision for me.
A+
Both....my doctor possessed surgical competence without a doubt, but the only reason he is hard on his patients is because he wants them to succeed.

11/23- I am now post op and got to come home yesterday. I cannot say enough postive about Dr. Harberg. He is knowledgeable, all business, and gives the patient a great sense of comfort knowing that he is in control of things. He warned me and warned me that, because of my size, he may not be able to get to my gall bladder to remove it. He was able to get it as well.
Pre-11/19- I have been trying to be approved for Dr. Harberg to do this surgery for almost four years now. Now that I am on my third insurance company, there is actual hope. On first impression, Dr. Harberg seems a bit like a crotchety old man. But he does have a sense of humor that can come through at times. However, one thing he will not joke about is the seriousness of this procedure. He makes sure you understand that. His staff is wonderful to work with and is willing to try, try, try to help fight the insurance battle.

Dr. Harberg was great on my first visit. Very through, no fooling around. He made sure I was makeing the right decision about having VBG.
He made it very clear that this is a serious change in life style, and if I wasn't going to follow his rules...than it wasn't right for me. I left with more confindence then when I went in.

Scared....He definetly will put the fear of God into you. If you weren't scared when you got there, you surely will be when you leave. He just intends for you to understand this isn't a quick fix, it is a life altering situation. Vickie and the other lady their were really nice.
Dr. Harberg really emphasizes the risks of surgery. Hey, he had me crying.
I feel he is a very confident surgeon. Hey, I am trusting my life with him.
I feel Dr. Harberg is extremely professional and came to see me every day in the hospital. My 2 week post op visit is this Monday. I will let you know more then.

I really like Dr. Harberg the first time I met him. I think he comes across as hard to get along with in the beginning because he wants to make sure you know what you are getting into. After that he loosens up and is easy to get along with. I liked him more and more as time went on. Dr. Harberg has the most wonderful and helpful staff I have delt with in a long time. I liked the fact that Dr. Harberg is very upfront and honest with his patients and I think that every person looking into using him should know that. Dr. Harberg really lets you know that the aftercare is very inportant and does have a structured aftercare program. He really lets you know the risks involved with the surgery upfront. I would rate him as a very good surgeon and as someone I would recommend to my friends. I think his surgical competence is better than the bedside manner, but as he gets to know you are serious about the surgery he starts to loosen up.I personally had no problems with him at all.

Dr. Harberg is a peculiar man but very straight forward and honest. His humor is quite dry but funny none the less and he will NOT recommend this surgery if he feels like you don't need it or if you are not ready. He is very thorough! I feel very comfortable with him and his staff is incredible! If you ever go to his office you should know that he is a no nonsense kind of doctor and he will only do this surgery ONCE. He makes that very clear so you need to do your research and make a decision for all the right reasons because if he gets the notion that you are doing this for the wrong reasons, he will not recommend it. He is very serious about the after care and makes sure you understand some of the physical and emotional things you will be experiencing. It is also important that you follow up with him as scheduled. Accountability is everything! He was very clear about all risks involved and wanted to be sure I was aware of them and understood them before we went forward with our conversation. His surgical competence is awesome...his bedside manner?.....that remains to be seen...I'll keep you posted!

I thought that he was a serious man about what he did. He wanted to make sure that it was what I really wanted to do.
It never did, I think that he is a good surgeon
They are very nice and helpful.
Really didn't have anything that I didn't like.
He is serious and wants to know that you know what you want to do and not regret that you did it.
He really emphasize about the aftercare. You have checkups schedule to make sure you are doing what needs to be done.
yes
Yes
I would rate him as a top notch doctor that cares about what he is doing, by helping overweight people with a real issue.
I didn't mind either one, I thought both was fine. He really relaxed me before surgery and I appreciated it, because I was scared and didn't know what the outcome was going to be.
