C. Gary Cooper Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr Copper was very nice he seemed to care about making sure you understand what was going to happen, and what was going to happen after surgery. The office staff was nice I've had alittle more time to talk to diane she is very helpful. I strongly stress writing down your questions.I was sick when I had my first appt. so I didn't want to talk to much.

I was a little intimidated when I first met Dr. Cooper. He is a tall man and seemed to get straight to business, (he didn't even intoduce himself when he entered the room)...but by the end of our consultation, I found him to be very knowledgable, friendly and witty!
Debbie at the office is awesome! She is such a nice person! She has gone out of her way on more than one occation to give help me get the information that I needed to work with my insurance company. And...she always got back to me when I left a message...even if it was to tell me that she hadn't heard anything new, but didn't want me to think that she was ignoring me.
Dr. Cooper spent a lot of time going over the risks of the procedure and what I am to expect after the surgery. He explained, in detail, every step of the procedure and what it was going to take to have a successful outcome.
I was feeling that I would be in very good hands with Dr. Cooper as my surgeon after the very first visit!
Although I think that Dr. Cooper possesses both surgical competence and bedside manner...I truly believe that surgical competence is much more important than bedside manner.

My first meeting with Dr. Cooper was wonderful and Dianne his office staff person is tremendouly compassionate and sensitive to me. After a while Dr. Cooper became friendlier and spent time explaining what to expect, the risks and the benefits and how my diet will be very different after surgery. I felt unhurried and very supported by both Dr. Cooper, Dianne and of course my Hubby, George. My original date of October 2, 2002 had to be cancelled and rescheduled due to insurance difficulties. My surgery (open RNY-distal) date is December 9, 2002 at Enloe Hospital.1/22/03 I am six weeks post op and my doctor was wonderful and I am down 40 pounds. Recovery has been tough but I am getting better everyday.

1/2003 I have only met Dr.Cooper once. That was for my cosultation. It's hard to give an impression of some one you've only seen once for less then 45 min. I will say that he is very informative and seems to know his stuff. I have talked to Diana his office person. She is kind and understanding, though very busy. I know several people who have had Dr. Cooper do this surgery for them and they are all very happy with their results. I hear through the grapevine that he grows on you and does have a dry sence of humor. I was really nervous going into his office and came out feeling hopeful. Which in it's self says alot.

Hello! It's been a long while since I've been back to this website. I'm doing very, very well since my surgery on Dec. 17, 2002. I'd like to say that I really like my Dr. Dr. Cooper is a nice, sincere man with a quiet demeanor. He is genuinely concerned about his patients. Diane, his reception-ist, is wonderful. She is very helpful with any and all questions regarding insurance. I would highly recommend Dr. Cooper to anyone. He knows his stuff! He was very thorough in our discussions regarding the surgery.
I am 25 days post-op and I feel great! I do tend to tire late in the afternoon. I'm planning to return to work on Jan. 27. I've not had any problems to speak of. My diet is progressing nicely. To date, I've lost 35 lbs. in 25 days. I'm looking forward to a longer and healthier life. I'm glad I chose to have this surgery. I'll keep updating my progress as times goes on.

My first impression of him is that he had the bedside manner of a "sack of potatoes". I came to respect his surgical abilities by contacting people on the list of patient references that his office provided, and also by listening to the nurses speak highly of him as I was going through the pre-op tests.
My experience was very good, no complications post-surgery. The staff at Enloe Medical Center in Chico, CA was absolutely fabulous. Dr. Cooper's office staff was friendly and courteous.
Dr. Cooper did answer all of my questions about the surgery and possible complications.
I would rate Dr. Cooper a 9 on a scale of 1-10,

Dr. Cooper, was a nice man, although he didn't seem very personable at first. However I read the patients info on him before I had my appointment so I didn't have any reason to think he was going to be any different. He warms up when he gets into the surgery info, and makes you feel comfortable by pulling up his chair right next to you and explains the way he will do the procedure.
Diane his ofc mgr was really nice and sent some good info in the mail to me before my appt. She was also able to put me on a cancellation list so I was able to get a sooner appt.
The Dr. emphasized the importance of following the diet program after the sugery.
He did make sure I knew about the risks of the surgery, he has a hand out with alot of potential risks including Death.
I do feel that both surgical competence and bed side manners are important but, I would rather have a great surgeon over the friend any day.

Dr. Cooper is very nice. I guess you have to get used to his personality. He sits really close to you while he explains things about the surgery. My husband went, and they got along fine. They both love to go fishing! Dianne was a real sweetheart, very kind and helpful. Very informative about your little blue book. Telling me to make sure I stick with it when it all happens. He tells you all the risks, which friends of mine worry about, but I look at it differently. I could die in my car, walking across the street, or just by being overweight. I would rather take the surgery.I think he is great and looking forward to my date.

I have one thing to say.....
THANK YOU GOD FOR C. GARY COOPER.
He and His assistant Diane are the absolute best. A lot say that He had little to say and maybe that is so but He was kind....funny and warm.... and smiled a lot with me anyway.
I am 1 week and 1 day post op and not regretting a thing. I highly reccommend this surgeon if He is in your area.
