Pre Surgery: I completed my consultation with the surgeon, David Lourie, MD. He said that I was a good candidate for surgery. Dr. Lourie was very professional and pleasant. He reviewed my health history and gave me a quick examination. I liked that he took time to listen to and answer my questions. He was very knowlegable about a bleeding disorder that I have and explained how it would be handled. After the exam, I met with Linda, his assistant. She gave me a list of tests that I will need to complete before a surgery date could be set and explained what I would need to do. The next day I made appointments at Huntington Hospital for a gall bladder ultrasound, upper GI, cardio stress test, and an appointment with a dietician. I was able to set up the appointments so that they are the same day. I also made an appointment for a psych evaluation. So far, it's been an easy experience and I look forward to Dr. Lourie performing the surgery and follow-up.

5 months Post Surgery: I have had several post-op visits with Dr. Lourie and each time I meet with him, I am increasingly glad that I selected him to perform my surgery. His after surgery care is what I expected and he always spends the time to answer my questions during my visit. He is very supportive! I think he is the best!

My first impression of Dr. Lourie, was that he is a perfect example of what a surgeon should be. He's professional, and has a wonderful calming affect. He's very approachable with any question we may have, and he answers is layman's terms. No question is too wierd, and he made me feel completely at ease with my decision.

The morning of surgery, Dr. Lourie came in to see me in the pre-op room, he asked me if I had any last minute concerns or questions. Boy was I ready for surgery on January 12th.

The evening of surgery, he came to visit me in my room. I wanted to hug him for changing my life!!! He came to visit me twice a day while I was in the hospital.

I am absolutely grateful for Dr. Lourie for doing such an awesome surgery. I had no complications, no pain...simply a painless prcedure for me. And I attribute it all to his gentle hands.

Over time Dr. Lourie, has been very approachable and very supportive. I see him around the hospital, and I never hesitate to say hello and of course, I'll never miss a chance to give him a great big hug, as I feel he's saved my life.

Dr. Lourie's aftercare is exceptional. He tracks my progress and I've seen him about three times in his office since surgery. At the year mark, I know I'll take extensive blood tests to make sure my levels of in all ok. I follow his instructions to take my vitamins and his prescribed actigall. I read on other profiles, that their doctors don't prescibe actigall, I feel Dr. Lourie is very well informed on all the current findings of WLS, so I follow his instructions. I know I'm in good hands with Dr. Lourie.

His office staff is excellent. Linda has turned out to be very helpful, and the front office staff is very pleasant. If at times they don't return calls immediately, it's because they also are the support staff for the other surgeons in the office. Overall, they are a great crew to work with and they handle all the insurance from start to finish, I never had to submit paperwork, they were quite efficient in that!

I would highly recommend Dr. Lourie for his expertise and experience as a bariatric surgeon and for all other surgery for that matter. I know if I ever need another surgery, for what ever reason, Dr. Lourie would be my first choice. His smile along with gentle and warm personality of course make it easier to choose him over all the rest!

I forgot to mention, that Huntington Hospital is absolutely awesome, not because I work there, but it is exceptionally clean, the staff is awesome and did I mention the doctors? Yes, Dr. Lourie stands out from all the rest!!!!

If I had to rate Dr. Lourie, on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give Dr. Lourie a whopping 15!!!

My first impression of Dr. Lourie was a good one. Though i have already been researching this surgery for several years and spoken to many other people that have had it done i didnt have alot of questions for him. He did ask me if i had any questions and said he was willing to discuss any questions i did have. He seemed friendly.

I actually did not see Dr. Lourie for a couple months. I had alot of work to do in getting my tests and things done so i can get my surgery date.

About two weeks before my surgery date i had a problem with one of my legs swelling up more than it usually does. I let Dr. Lourie Nurse know about it and though i was not happy about having to do additional tests when she told Dr. Lourie about it he made me get a doppler ultrasound and also made me go back to my primary doc. When he found out everything was ok and that i did not have a blood clot then he continued the surgery date. I was alittle nervous about that part but i would much prefer that we did not do the surgery if i was in any more danger from something like blood clots.

The next time i saw him was the day of surgery. He seemed alittle shy compared to the other time i met him in person. He came in and said hi and asked if i was ready. He does have a nice smile and seems like a nice person.

After surgery he came in and saw me. I was only there for two days..the day of surgery i went in very early..4am..surgery time was about 8am. He came in on Tues morning and said i could go home when ever i wanted. He said that everything went fine and he wanted to see me in one week. Right now it is 5 days after surgery and i will be having my one week post op visit with him on tuesday. I will let you all know more after that. Over all he seems like a great doctor. Bedside mannor is great. I have no complaints.

My first impression of Dr Lourie was that he looked like a very gentile man. This is when I met him at the Seminar held the 1st Wednesday of the month.

My impression didn't change over time because he was the same during my consultation, very nice kind knowledgable and answered all my questions.

His office staff is very polite when your able to get through. They are very busy.

I would definitley recomend Dr.Lourie, he had excellent bed side manner. He was there every morning that I was in the hospital explaining what was going on and what I should expect.

I absoulutly love Dr. Lourie. He gave me a wamr heartfelt smile when he first entered my exam room, he gave me a smile the day of my surgery, he was all smiles in post opp at the hospital and he continues to be nothig but smiles and kind words. That is what someone needs in a situaion like this and to me a smile makes all the difference in the world. Dr. Lourie's staff is amazing if I was having any trouble during my first few weeks my mom was on the phone talking wiht someone on his staff about what to do. These people are amazing and friendly. I didn't dislike anyhtign about Dr. Lourie or his staff. I feel that future patients should know that he tells the truth and he feels that all the pre-surgery test are extremly important (yes even that horrid upper GI). aftercare to him seemed to be the key to understanding your new body, and his well structured program at first was very hard to follow, but when you have absolutly no appitite isn't it always hard to put something in your tummy. The protien shakes that I was on for three months did however get bland and I tried to avoid them as much as possible once i started working my way up the soild food chain but had i completly ignored the shake I feel that I wouldn't be as successful today. The risks of surgery were addressed in two different ways, one was in his mandetory fourm that he has ALL potenital weightloss patients go to where just about everything is talked about. The other was in the exam room and right before I completly blacked out on dugery day. Dr. Lourie was very straight forward, told me and my mom all of the risks. Over all i would give Dr. Lourie a 10, and excelent man and a wonderful doctor. As for his surgical competence and beside manner you couldn't ask for a doctor who is great with both.

Great guy. Surgery went perfectly. What more do you need to know?

I found Dr. Lourie so easy to talk to at the symposium and at my consultation. I am very confident that I've made a good decision to have my gastric bypass performed by Dr. Lourie.

I had a great first impression of Dr. Lourie. First impressions mean a great deal to me, and this was one of the contributing factors when choosing my surgeon. It was a tough decision between him and his partner Dr. Powell. They both seemed very knowledgable and had a sense of humor as well. His office staff is very impressive as well. They are always willing to help with any questions or problems you might have and are very willing to work with you. They are polite and understanding as well. Dr. Lourie is very concerned about his patients and takes a very good care of them. I even had a chance to talk to his partner, Dr. Powell about a problem I was having, and he was very willing to help me out. Dr. Lourie has a compassionate bedside manner and is very soothing. He elaborated on all the risks from surgery and made sure I was very aware of them. He was also very assuring, which meant alot to me. I would definately recommend Dr. Lourie to all future surgical patients. You won't be disappointed. My surgery was a major success, and I owe it all to him!!

Dr. Lourie is very kind and compassionate. He has made me feel at ease with my decision and has been honest about the possibilites. I have had several meetings with him and he has taken the time to respond and explain every question that I have asked. I know that I am in good hands.

I liked Dr Lourie at once. His office staff is professional, courteous, and concerned. From what I understand he's a stickler for following the proscribed aftercare diet and instructions. He discussed the risks frankly and honestly with me and believe me I had a zillion questions, I'm a R.N. myself. I did a lot of research before I even considered the procedure and Dr. Lourie came highly recommended by friends of mine in the medical community....so far I must say I concur. My surgery is scheduled for October 8th so I'll have more to add then. I think that probably surgical competence is more important tnan a terrific bedside manner but both as a patient and as a nurse I value a doctor that is blessed with both good skills and a caring attitude toward his patients....from what I've heard and experienced so far, Dr. Lourie has both.
