Farouck Obeid Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

Dr Obeid was very personable and informative. He made sure that I knew what options were open to me and the medical support unit that would be at my disposal. The office staff exemplified friendliness and professionalism at all times. The center that Dr Obeid is affiliated with is the Hurley Center for Comprehensive Weight Loss in Flint MI. In the first initial meeting I met with the doctor, the nutritionist, and also with a staff member who has undergone the surgery. During this meeting I was informed of the intensity of this surgery, and of the risks that go along with it. I was quite impressed with Dr. Obeid because he is the Chief Surgeon in the Trauma Center at Hurley Hospital. Who better to do the surgery. The center is very structured and offers a support unit that meets twice monthly. They are connected with a fitness center that offers discounts for post-op patients. They are also in the process of forming a support unit that visits patients on their second day of post-op for encouragement and support, I belong to that unit. They also have a staff that takes care of getting your case approved by the insurance company. I only had to sign release forms with my physicians so my records would be at their disposal.

So far everything has been great! Have 2 weeks till surgery. The only thing I would say would be the waiting time at the appointments, the appointment it self took forever. He's very busy!!!! But, he spends the time with his patients!!!! The office staff is great!!!!! Alison and Chuck have been super!!!!! Will see more in the next few weeks.

When I met with Dr. Obeid I was put right at ease. He has a sense of humor but most of all, he was very kind and I could tell he really wanted to help me. He was very informative...he told it like it was...but it was never super serious..which I liked alot. After he got through with his consultations, we all met in a confrence room and he went over the procedure (open RNY) with us all. There was around 5-6 people in there with me. It was great being in that type of setting. It gave everyone an opportunity to ask questions that others never thought of asking. I am very confident about him being my surgeon. His staff was also wonderful. I was teased alittle when I was first seen by the nurse on how nervous I looked..but she set me at ease and I losened up. The councelor..Vel was really nice and she also heads the support group in genesse county. Julie was the nutritionist I seen and although she was much more serious, she was still friendly and gave alot of information. I only wish she would of gone a little slower because I think I missed some important things..but I will be talking with her again. So overall...I recommend Dr. Obeid to anyone looking into this surgery. Oh and my husband has no worries now of me having this done with him. He is very confident in Dr. Obeid's abilities also...that is a big plus!!

I meet with Dr.Obeid only once(11-21-01)at my consultation. He was highly recommended by a close friend, and at my local support group he was highly spoke of. He was very informative when explaining the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass and everyone associated with the Hurley Center for Comprehensive Weight Loss have been nothing less than WONDERFUL. When I finished that day I was very much pleased with the information given.

To take this one step back, in October I did have a consultation in Ann Arbor, but for one reason or another, I left there and just wasn't pleased with the information given. I left there feeling that I was all on my own.

Dr. Obeid takes his job serious. He has been Chief of emergency surgery at both Henry Ford Hosp. of Detroit and now at Hurley Hosp. in Flint. He is complete. he takes no short cuts. The staff is kind and caring of your feelings and your fears. They take the time to walk you through all that will occur. Obeid's bedside matter is kind and not too rough. But he tells you the way it is and what you should be doing. He came in daily to see me after surgery along with the second surgeon (they work in pairs at Hurley) There is a third intern doctor that takes care of you as well. He is on call to you at any time after surgery. I'd rate my care a 10
