i had my first consultation on May 28, 2002.
Dr. Obeid was very professional. He explained everything. What to expect before and after surgery. What the risks were. His staff was wonderful. I talked with a nurse, a dietion, and a baratric consuler. The appointment was an all day event though. plan on alot of waiting time
I liked Dr. Obeid right away. It was obvious that he is a very thorough and with this type of surgery that is extremely necessary. He has a good sense of humor also, which makes me feel at ease. He went into very much detail about what happens during the surgery, what the risks are and what outcome you can expect. He insisted that each surgery candidate in the conference room understood everything there was to know about the surgery before we left from our initial consultation. Since he is the Chief Trauma Surgeon, his surgical capabilities are obviously the best.
I think that his aftercare could be greatly improved on, though.
The office staff was very helpful and had plenty of time to answer all of my questions. It was a very "warm" atmosphere!
MY FIRST IMPRESSION WAS THAT HE WAS VERY KIND AND CARED ABOUT WHAT HE WAS DOING. AND THAT IMPRESSION JUST GOT STRONGER THE MORE I GOT TO KNOW HIM. HIS STAFF WAS VERY HELPFULL AND ATTENTIVE. THE WEIGHT TIME TO SEE HIM WAS VERY LONG SOMTIMES BUT WELL WORTH IT. I THINK HE IS THE BEST SURGOEN ON THE PLANET BECAUSE HE CARES , IF HIS PATIENT ISN'T DOING WELL HE HAS BEEN KNOWN TO SIT BY THE BED SIDE ALL NIGHT BY THERE SIDE. HE REALLY GOES OUT OF HIS WAY TO HELP HIS CLIENTS.HE STRONGLY EMPHASIZES AFTERCARE AND HAS A AWESOME AFTERCARE PROGRAM. HE SITS DOWN AND EXPLAINS ALL THE RISKS WITH YOU OF THE SURGERY. HE IS TRULY 110% IN MY BOOK IN ALL AREAS.
He was nice, but seemed in a bit in a rush at first...which -- he WAS very behind schedule and that kind of put me off...BUT, after sitting and talking with him, then ultimately finding out all the specifics of the information of risks/complications involved and success rate etc in a group setting, which was interesting, I felt he was VERY thorough, funny, caring and kind.
He does a group information session, so that he can make sure he goes over everything thoroughly with every patient and not have to make patients wait LONGER than a mth to get in. There just aren't enough hours in a day for him to see everyone and explain all the information he wants to cover.
ALL in all, I'm really impressed and glad I chose him! He has a great personality and I'm sure his bedside manner is going to be just as wonderful!
He's very honest and blunt about using this as a tool to help with behavior modification and that ultimately it's up to the individual to make this work successfully and last forever!
The aftercare program of the Hurley Comprehensive Weight Loss Center is very impressive. They have the COMPLETE package of support, information, health club you can join later and everything is conveniently located all in one area. The hospital that the surgery is done in is just down the road and is a Critical Care Trauma grade 1 Center - which I've been to for many procedures/multiple surgeries and both my children were born there. My oldest son was born a premie and spent 3 mths in their NICU -- so if anything should go wrong, your in great hands! I'm VERY comfortable with the hospital and Dr. Obeid and confident in both their reputations.

i have had a history of blood clots and he told me "as your brother i am telling you not to let any dr. do surgery with out a vena filter." he seemed to care about me.
the only question he could not answer was the cost of the surgery.
office personel seemed to be ok.
Dr Obeid was great, He met with me explained the surgery asked if I had any questions and then we met as a group and was told in depth how the surgery was done, all the risks. It was very informative. The staff at the clinic are all very friendly, most have been through the surgery.
They explain the surgery, what you need for insurance and then what you will need to do for care after the surgery. They also send you packets of information for every step of the way.
I do think, because they are so busy, that each patient needs to makes sure they contact the office so you don't get lost in the process.
My first impression was very good. He is very knowledgeable and competent. He explained the surgery in great detail and answered any questions that I had. All in all, I would rate him a 9 out of 10.
Dr. Obied was a little "gruff" when I first met him but by the time I met with him to go over complete details of the surgery I realized he is very kind and wonderful. He truely believes that he is providing overweight people a chance to better living. I would recommend him 100 times over!
Dr Obeid was so open and friendly it was impossible to nervous. He just made me trust him right from the start and his staff was as helpful as anyone could hope for.
