Dr.Sax did my surgery just before he went to RI. I now weigh more than half what I did and that is close to 8 years later. I walk easier, I breathe better and I know this has added years onto my life. Dr.Sax was so patient and I have not found a Dr nearly as knowledgable as him since he left, he is truly missed. I highly recommend him!

Dr Sax saved my life..when I did the psych eval I was denied by a crazy lady.. He went to bat for me and sent me to a different doc who wasnt sold either
.but due to Dr Sax's recomendation I had the surgey..I want him to know that 11 yrs later I am still a compliant patient and there is no way to say enough thanks. I was also so ill that I was "on call" and was moved up several months due to a cancelation. I had my gallblader removed and a cardiac ablation before I was even fit for surgery... DR SAX, you are an amazing man. I lost 150 pounds initally and have maintained a 130 lb weight loss......I dont expect you to remember me but I will NEVER forget you.

Dr. Harry Sax performed my laparoscopic gastric bypass RNY on 10/25/2001 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. As a secretary in the department of surgery, I knew dr. Sax and his record of previous surgeries and was very confident that things would go well. Everything went well except that I was in surgery 6 hours. I had a good postop recovery period and lost 113 pounds over the next year. I am happy to say that I have maintained 90% of my weight loss over the almost 9 years since I had surgery.

I also want to recommend Dr. William O'Malley of Highland Hospital, Rochester, NY. I had a serious complication a year ago, a partial small bowel obstruction caused by an internal hernia and some adhesions. Dr. O'Malley fixed everything!! Since the repair I have felt 100% better 100% of the time. He is very skilled at bariatric surgery, and their Bariatric Center serves us well. The staff at Highland Hospital treated me with respect and I can't say enough good things about them. The only negative is that the parking is expensive. I was in the hospital for 5 days, and each time my husband came to visit it cost $6 for parking!

My first impression of Dr. Sax was one of mixed feelings. From research, I knew he was an excellent surgeon. However, maybe I caught him on an off day because during that first visit I felt a little rushed, and felt that he hadn't taken the time to \"get to know me\". He made a comment upon exiting the exam room that he felt I had \"relationship issues\" that needed to be dealt with. I was shocked, and a little upset to tell the truth. However, I continued to give him the benefit of the doubt and scheduled my colonoscopy to be done by him. It was at that time that I saw him as a truly kind and caring surgeon. His staff is top notch! Jodi, his office manager, was always so warm and never gave me the impression I was a bother, no matter how many times I called and how many questions I asked. Thank you Jodi! Amy, his nurse practitioner, is truly a caring and empathetic part of his practice. She too is always so patient with listening and answering any questions I have for her or Dr. Sax. Dr. Vithianathan is his partner, and because I have the Realize band he was the doctor who filled my band the first time. I feel the utmost confidence in all of their hands, and would fully recommend Dr. Sax or Dr. V for consideration in your WLS.

Dr. Sax is a compassionate man who appears to truly understand the battle of an obese person. His gentle spirit is a comfort.

Dr. Sax was recommended by my PCP. I had already visited another bariatric surgeon 2 years earlier and I wasn't expecting to like this doctor either. Dr. Sax spoke to both my husband and I for close to an hour and answered all of our questions completely and patiently. We were impressed. His office staff is friendly and very accomodating and Dr. Sax does not keep his patients waiting for their appointment. rnrnIt is now 14 months since I had the surgery and he still monitors my progress during routine visits. He just added a new surgeon to his staff as well as a nutritionist. I am very impressed with Dr. Sax, his staff and Miriam Hospital where he is Chief of Surgery.

I thought that Dr Pohl had a wonderful professional about himself and that he answered all my questions with out having to ask them. I thought his office staff was very professional and helpful. I received alot of info from the office and the Dr explained the surgery and risks and complications thoroughly. rnrnMy PCP referred me to Dr Sax for a 2nd opinion and I am scheduled to have a revision on June 16, 2008. Dr Sax and his office have been wonderful through this whole process.

From day 1 I knew this was the right doctor for me. He truely cares for his patients and is this most supportive doctor I have ever had. Over the past 10 months (I needed extensive testing for my lap band surgery due to family hx) my first impression has held true. He was up to date on the latest studies and testing that needed to be done and implemented them quickly. rnrnMy only complaint would be that some of the extended testing results took a while to get \"insurance ok\" and results. There was a period of about 2 months that I didn't have contact with the office because of this and I was starting to get nervous about what the progress was. I didn't want to bother them and I'm sure if I had contacted them my concerns would have been put to rest. I don't think this should reflect on the office staff or rnDr. Sax, but was a result of my own anxiety, and insurance protocol.rnrnHis office staff is top notch. They are always pleasant and eager to help. They make you feel like your a part of their family--they truely care about you. rnrnDr. Sax does have an extensive, highly qualified staff and aftercare is highly emphasized with a very well structured aftercare program.rnrnSurgery risks were explained to me and my husband, who accompanied me to my appointment. My husband was so impressed with him that he has decided to also have the surgery done. I had been trying to convience him to have the surgery for 6 months. After meeting Dr. Sax once he decided to go through with it.rnrnI would rate Dr. Sax A++ . He is certainly most competent in his surgeon skills and his bedside manner is terrific. I can't think of a time that I met him that he was not smiling, pleasant and most supportive of me.

When I first met Dr. Sax, he was all business and I wondered about his bedside manner. I have always believed that you shouldn't let someone cut into you that you are not comfortable with, but something told me to trust him and I am so glad that I did. He told me a few visits later that this was part of a process for determining those who were really serious about changing their lives and those who weren't. It takes a great deal to committment to the life style changes necessary to make this surgery a success and Dr. Sax is dedicated to his patients success in all aspects. How did my impression change over time? I grew to adore him! He really is a kind, compassionate man in addition to being a very talented surgeon. His office staff was wonderful, but that was in Rochester. I confess that I know nothing of his Rhode Island office. rn He is very serious about aftercare. Dr. Sax stresses that this is a LIFE LONG committment. This is not just a quick fix. If you do not change the habits that got you here, you will eventually gain it all back. His follow up was wonderful and very encouraging. He and his staff \"celebrated\" all of my weight loss successes with me. (He was so proud when I told him about my younger boyfriend.)rn As far as the risks, he is very honest. He will explain everything to you but it is also your responsibility to educate yourself and ask questions. Hence, this website.rn Once you get past the initial, his bedside manner is wonderful. He made me very comfortable and there was nothing I couldn't discuss with him. As for surgical competence, I researched him, and every other bariatric surgeon in New York at great length before choosing him in the first place. For me, there simply was no comparison. Harry Sax is THE BEST that there is. I can't even begin to tell you how skilled, dedicated and committed this man is. He can give you the tools to change your life and there is no one who I would trust more. My only regret is that he took another position but Rochester's loss was Rhode Island's gain. I hope they appreciate him!
