I have only had my first initial visit with Dr. Doxey. He was recommended by my regular physician because Dr. Doxey specialalizes in The laproscopic type of the Rue-n-y. Both Doctors agree that my health poses a greater risk factor if I have the conventional "open-incision" surgery as opposed to the laprascopic proceedure. Dr. Doxey has an excellent success rate and himself seems to be a very effecient and knowledgeable surgeon but i had the feeling of being in an almost "factory" situation...meaning that everyone was so very effecient and was giving me answers to questions before I had a chance to ask them...I spent about ten minutes in the doctors' presence where he described the surgery and gave me appropriate literature and made drawings for me explaining the proceedure and them He scheduled me for many tests. I am still going through the testing proceedures. I was told that I will not meet with him again until just before going into the hospital for the actual surgery.

My first impression was one of confidence and that he truly understands the plight of trying to lose weight. My impression of him only got better as the doctor-patient relationship progressed. He was so kind to me when I was hurting and grouchey after my surgery. His staff is the best. They are very knowledgeable and helpful. There is not one thing that I did not like about him or the staff. Future patients should know that he will expect you to follow the rules of eating to the letter. Aftercare has been phenominal. I have seen him once a month since my surgery in October and it has been a beneficial follow up system. He told me exactly what the risks were and let me know that it was a commitment to life change. Dr. Doxey is a 10+ on a scale of 1 to 10. His expertise in this area is remarkable and his bedside manner was very comforting. While the process and surgery was not easy, it was positive and worth it.

Today was my first meeting with Dr Doxey and
I was very pleased with the office visit. He was very informative and made me feel good about myself.
There wasn't anything I didn't like about the visit. He emphasized the aftercare as the most important aspect to losing and keeping the weight off. Surgery alone will not work. He did review the risks and rewards of having the surgery
His staff was very nice and professional at the Chesapeake Office.
Yes he does have a structured program for the patient who has the gastric bypass surgery. covering everything from diet and excercise and attitude and vitamins.

My first impression of Dr. Doxey was excellent. He seemed professional and caring. He took time to answer all of the questions I had, and on our first visit he took great care to not only address all of the risks but to provide statistical data about the types of complications and results that he personally has experienced and dealt with. His office staff was very helpful even prior to my first visit while I was researching both the surgery and the surgeon. My only negative is addressed to all doctors... Their professional detachment and the large number of patients they attend leaves me feeling more like a number than an individual. Despite that gripe, I was very satisfied with the entire experience. The frequent follow up care appointments seem more in the line of check ups and weigh-ins, as I have had no complications and seem to be doing what I should with my diet. His surgical competence far outweighs his bedside manner. Don't get me wrong, he is not rude or callous, just busy. Overall I would rate Dr. Doxey and his practice at an 8 out of 10.

My first impression of Dr. Doxey was that he was very smart. He seems to be the utmost expert in hampton roads on this surgery. The office staff were very nice as well.
After Surgery-- Dr. Doxey was wonderful. I highly recomend him to anyone considering this surgery. I overheard a nurse while in the hospital commenting on me walking so soon and feeling great and she said "well she is a doxey patient. His surgerys are always up sooner than others". I have had no problems and I am sure alot of that has to do with what a great surgeon Dr. Doxey is. I give him a 100!

I first met Dr. Doxey in 4/02, when I had my first appointment with him. He was very professional, and he is the type of person you immediately like. The pre-op appointment 2 weeks prior to surgery was great. This man does not carry a huge ego, and is very personable. You do not feel like he is trying to play god, like so many others surgeons do. He makes you feel relaxed, and does not pressure you to make a decision either way. He explains in detail all of the risks and benefits associated with the surgery, so you can make an informed decision. He was very reassuring to me during pre-op, and took the time to speak with my sister both pre and post surgery. While in the hospital, he was there every morning to check on you, even on the weekend. He never acts like he is in a rush to move on to the next task. He has wonderful follow up care, and is truly interested in how you are doing. He focuses in on how you are taking care of yourself, not how much have you lost. He stresses good nutrition and eating habits. He is happy to share in your success. I have referred a number of people to him, and everyone of them have been impressed with Dr. Doxey. Several of them had not been impressed with their first choice of surgeons, so I had advised them to get an evaluation from Dr. Doxey. Overall, I rate Dr. Doxey is extremely competent, has a great bedside manner, and is a very personable Doctor. If I had to say anything negative about the whole experience, it would be the waiting for insurance approval, waiting to get scheduled, and trying to get through to some of the office staff. But, this is no different than what most people experience when getting WLS. I truly have not had any problems with the surgery, or the Doctor.

My daughter-in-law was with me when I first went to see Doctor Doxey.. All the way back home, she kept hounding me to admit how gooding looking he is.. I laughed all the way home..(more embarressed than anything else is - I didn't even pay attention to his looks!!) My impression never changed over time.. Before I went to him I think I read everything there was on him, available to me.. So, I was very impressed before I really got to meet him.. The staff, is excellent!! I found them patience and very thorough... Their location is the only thing I like least about Doctor Doxey's office, I hate to drive for an hour to get there... Listen and ask questions.. He will take all the time you need to help you understand the surgery.. He ( and his office) will expain any and all that you need to make a decision that is right for you.. All the instructions and reading materials you receive for before, during and after has everything that you will need for care before and after.. I am so happy with
Doctor Doxey and his staff that if I ever need any other type of surgery I will perfer Doctor Doxey....
